#WOTR19 #AuthorSpotlights – A.D. Ellis

A.D. Ellis

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

A.D. Ellis
I’m an Indiana girl born and raised. I have a teen girl and tween boy. Most of my time is spent teaching alternative education in the inner-city of Indianapolis. I love to write, read, and crochet. I’ve been binge watching Glee and American Horror Story recently. I’m in love with pizza, tea, pulled pork, chocolate, and wine with friends.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

If I’m at home, I’m likely on the couch with a blanket, my laptop, earbuds in, and some hot tea.
If I’m feeling unfocused, I’ll go to Starbucks for a chai tea latte and vanilla scones so I can blast music in my ears at a corner table and get some words down.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting readers is amazing. It’s so fun to hear from people who love my stories as much as I do. And meeting new readers is great because they get to find stories that may end up being their favorite.
And spending time with author buddies, meeting new author friends, just the feeling of fun and relaxation.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I don’t really have one. I feel like I’ve been lucky to meet so many of the authors I love to read. There are plenty I’d be thrilled to meet, but no ONE author is on my list. (I did recently meet a unicorn author for Jillian Jacobs 🙂 He was her unicorn author AND he writes about a unicorn. Hahahahaha…. That was fun because I didn’t have to be nervous, I was just like, “Hey, my friend loves you and would kill me if I didn’t get you to sign this and take a picture.” Fun times.)

What author would you love to write with?

I’m actually doing my first collab project with Declan Rhodes right now and it’s been tons of fun. I’d be open to writing with almost anyone as long as we meshed well. We wouldn’t have to write exactly the same, that would be boring. But our styles should correlate. And we’d have to have patience and flexibility.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

There are SOOOO many, I can’t pick just one. All the signings, meeting readers, spending time with friends, writing days with author buddies.
Actually, there are TWO best memories:
1) when I first started writing M/M, I needed help/research and a reader put me in contact with her son. That was in 2015 and he’s one of my very best friends to this day. We talk daily and plan trips together. He’s an amazing person and I’m so blessed and grateful to have him in my life.
2) At a signing in 2016, I saw this guy and there was truly something magical about him. I told him later that he lit up the room, made everyone want to be his friend, and had a general “fuck off” attitude at the same time. I didn’t understand the pull, but I was drawn to him and HAD to know him. As bad as it sounds, I sleuthed out who he was (I’m a damn good detective!) and as I was leaving the signing that day, I contacted him. So, yeah, it could have been taken as stalkerish and creepy, but luckily he didn’t see it that way (much) and he’s one of my very best friends to this day. We talk daily, take road trips, and he’s an incredibly important part of my life.
So, overall, my best memories are the ones that have brought dear friends into my life. Without this author journey, I wouldn’t have my author friends, my reader/blogger friends, or these two guys who are such important friends to me.

#WOTR19 #AuthorSpotlights – Elissa Daye

Elissa Daye

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Elissa Daye. I live in Normal, but have always considered myself abnormal. I don’t fit inside any particular box, which is why I cross genres so frequently.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

You can find me writing anywhere in my house with a table, legs covered in a blanket and feet warm and toasty in fluffy socks. What kind of food? More like caffeine. Nasty habit that I’m trying to break, but it keeps the muse awake.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Meeting all the fans. I love when people come up to talk to me. The best days are the ones I don’t even have time to sit down. Then again, the after party with the readers is also fun!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Oooh, that’s tough. I think it’s a tie between Anne Rice and J.K. Rowling.

What author would you love to write with?

My cousin, Jordan Deen. Although we have written a book together, I miss writing with her as our lives have been traveling a warp speed in different directions.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Hearing how one of my books made someone throw it across the room. The ability to make someone have such a reaction to something I’ve written is an amazing feat. Being forgiven after the fact, was good too.

#WOTR19 #AuthorSpotlight – Krystle Able/A.K. Dickerson

Krystle Able

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Krystle Able and I am a multigenre author. I also write horror under the pen name A.K. Dickerson with my husband. I was born and still live in central Illinois and work as a freelance writer full time while also going to U of I to finish my BA in English. When I am not writing or working on school, all of my time is devoted to my three kids who are 11, 9 and 3. Our three year old is autistic and we are very involved in our local community through programs like SPICE and Marcfirst.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

Panera, not so much a good but I love their Plum Hibiscus tea.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I am attending my first signing in May as an Author and WOTR will be my second! I have been several times as a reader however and my favorite thing would have to be just getting together with a room full of people who all love reading as much as I do. When you go to a signing event, you have something in common with every single person around you, it’s impossible to feel alone.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Tarryn Fisher and Colleen Hoover (I want to meet them together, they’re a package deal for me)

What author would you love to write with?

I am co-writing with RL Weeks this year which I am very excited about.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

This happened yesterday! A former professor of mine from ICC and a fellow horror author left an amazing review of my debut horror story and it made me feel validated for the first time, like, ok, maybe my writing is pretty ok after all!

#WOTR19 #AuthorSpotlights – Vivian Ward

Vivian Ward

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

\My name is Vivian Ward and I write forbidden, mĂ©nage, dark, and contemporary romance. I’ve been writing for almost a decade and it is my full-time job. Reading and writing have always been my passion, and I love creating stories based on our hidden desires, intimate relationships, and taboo subjects that most can’t fathom talking about or sharing with others. Aside from writing, I’m an avid reader of all books naughty, suspenseful, dark, and smutty. I’m also a mom, wife, taxi cab driver, chef, maid, laundry attendant, professional shopper, and a fur mom to two awesome dogs. When I have downtime–who am I kidding? There’s no such thing as downtime! No, seriously, when I do have a few spare moments, I like going to bookstores to hit up the romance, suspense, and reference sections. As much as I love reading stories, I think it’s also important to study writing and have several bookshelves dedicated to books about editing, plotting, story arcs, character arcs, and much more.

Where is your favorite place to write and what food must be present?

Oddly, I like writing in public places. I get a kick out of knowing what I’m writing and laugh at the fact that nobody around me would ever guess I’m writing about mĂ©nages or dirty romance. One of my favorite places to write is Starbucks. If I’m writing from home, I’m happy with any place that doesn’t have four kids screaming and fighting. LOL And there’s not any particular food or drink that must be present but I do have to have something to drink at all times. It doesn’t matter if it’s tea, water, soda, coffee, or something else.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love meeting fellow authors but, even more than that, I love meeting readers! Without readers, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It’s so much fun to meet everyone, especially since majority of my time is spent at home, writing alone. The socialization is my favorite part because I’m naturally a people person and signings allow me to interact with everyone.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

Tillie Cole. I’d love to meet her because I love her writing but I did get to meet Jamie McGuire, which I absolutely loved! I’d also like to meet Gillian Flynn. Okay, so I have more than one author that I’d like to meet but I’m only human so sue me. LOL It’s like opening a bag of chips, you can’t stop at one.

What author would you love to write with?

Honestly, several of my friends and I already write together and release special books for holidays and just for fun, and I love it. Sometimes the worlds are shared and sometimes they aren’t but it’s so much fun creating storylines and various ideas and then getting together to write them. For a co-write, I’d like to write with either Derek Masters (again) or Jillian Quinn. She’s one of my best friends and we bounce ideas off each other all the time.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My favorite memory as an author so far would be the two different times that I earned orange bestseller tags and hit number one in multiple categories with two different titles.

Goodreads

OH HELL!!! Here comes BOB!!! I can’t tell you which of this series is my favorite because they are all soooooo different but with the same flare for gore, sarcasm, wittiness, and a killer plot! Again, I feel a little more evil with each book I read from RK. Maybe I’m going to hell because I can not get enough of the twisted thoughts, bent sarcasm and the rollercoaster of gore. But it’s totally worth it! These are my people!

“Sowing the seeds of discontent, creating doubt, disarray and general mayhem.”

This sums up this story PERFECTLY!!!!

Ok enough with this. The story starts right where 4 leaves off. Shep returns but with quite a vengeance as he actually died in purgatory! WTH?! RIGHT?! But the kicker is that he found Andrea. He F’n found her! And now it is his mission to get her back. But when he found Andrea he met Bob. And get ready for Bob! He is one of my favorite characters in the story. Well, there is Rusty (the cat) too. And he is freaking hilarious!!!! If cats could talk, LOL! Shep is ready to form the escape plan for Andrea. He gets everyone on board and gets some major help from Bob. But Bob, he is super simple but not. I hope that makes sense because it makes perfect sense to me. The thing with Bob is that sometimes he acts a little too quick and doesn’t give or get the best direction. Because of this the crazy group travels to some outlandish new planes of existence. The story stays gory with all the sarcasm that we love but we do get to see some of the truer sides of Shep….and Andrea. “Every choice I’ve ever made was for me and me alone, to save my (behind) or get what I wanted. I’m a survivor, not a (f’n) hero.” Shep says this and I think this is true for a lot of people. And as with the rest of the True Death series, nothing is as it seems. When we finally get to Andrea is everything all rainbows and unicorns? You must read this to find out!!!!!!!

The thing about RK’s characters are that they are a lot like me in some way, shape or form. I CAN RELATE! I feel like I know them and I can’t wait to hate them, love them, and threaten some of their lives! I am looking forward to continuing this series. And if you haven’t read the beginning of the series yet….WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!!!!!

I was born high in the Andes and raised by a band of wandering gypsies. At the ripe old age of 7, I struck out on my own, dabbling in the arts of alchemy and personal financing. Neither of the trades paid off. At 13 I became the personal juggler for Stephen King, but alas, that didn’t last long either. Since then, I’ve wandered aimlessly through life and this planet, stopping along the way to help people and smite the wicked.

A little while ago I decided to try my hand at writing. I published The True Death series independently for The True Death and The Vengeful Death but was recently picked up and published by Love N Books.

#WOTR19 – #Review – Portal Through the Veil by Miranda Lynn

Portal Through the Veil

An heir, set to rule over all of Faery, on one condition- that she marry and take a King to rule at her side. Her father is determined to see her wed to a prince of his choosing, however, Tatianna has other plans. Plans that don’t involve tying the knot. What this princess didn’t anticipate, was the unexpected guest to what was, essentially, her engagement festival.

Kallan, prince of the dark court- was not only unexpected, but uninvited. He knew it would be a risk to show up. Not only was he a dark fae, but a human as well. It would all be worth it though to see her again. When light meets dark- and two worlds collide- secrets, lies and betrayals are exposed.

Luckily, fate, magic and a bit of divine intervention will help to bring balance back to the land of Faery. No matter the cost.

Goodreads

“A desire to live in the light instead of simply surviving in the shadow of darkness.”

Beautifully written but a fast read! You are immediately drawn into the the world of Faery. Quickly learning about the Fae and their customs and then you are thrown right into the mix of Tatianna having to find a prince to rule beside her as her King. Nope, she is not having none of that! She believes in change and believes she is strong enough to rule her people without a man. But we quickly find out that this is not going to be the case. Her father has a plan to make her choose….or rather he will choose for her through a series of tests for chosen suitors. What the king is not expecting is Kallan to make an appearance as he is a dark fae but is also half human. Tatiana cannot help but be drawn to Kallan and his mysterious vibe but she finds that she only has eyes for him…… and he for her. When this starts to heat up and secrets are unraveled these two have to band together to save Faery. The trials these two face and the secrets that come out will put true love to the test.

This is a YA story but has none of the feels of teenage hormones and drama. This is an evolved type of YA story that is beautiful and warm. A must read! I hope to read more of these two!

Miranda Lynn

Escaping reality one book at a time has been Miranda’s motto since she learned to read. As an only child raised on a dairy farm her creative imagination brought words to life. She devoured more books growing up than her little town bookmobile could handle. It was inevitable that she would turn from reading them to writing them. This is her way to help not only herself but others escape the day to day drudge. Her books may take you on a journey through time, give you a look inside a fantasy realm, or delve into the magic of almost anything paranormal. Threading in heart stopping romance and dropping an occasional super sexy scene just to keep you on your toes.
Miranda’s stories are focused around strong female leads and sexy males who appreciate them. She strives to encourage her readers that they can have it all in real life too.
You can find her most days either subbing at the local high school or tucked away in her office working on the next story with a cup of java in her hand. #WOTR19 #AuthorSpotlights – AJ Renee

A.J. Renee

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

AJ Renee. Military wife, mother, daughter, sister… I like long walks on the beach, beer, wine, scotch, and cosmos. I consider myself a Florida girl since I lived there the longest time. I’ve never officially used my college degrees in the 12+ years I’ve had them. I’m a nerd, goofball, and loyal to a fault. I’m also an open book so if you’re curious about something feel free to ask.

I work the best at my desk. I drink hot tea while I write and try to avoid the snacks. Writing is awful for my waistline.
