#review #thriller #mystery When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole

Rear Window meets Get Out in this gripping thriller from a critically acclaimed and New York Times Notable author, in which the gentrification of a Brooklyn neighborhood takes on a sinister new meaning…

Sydney Green is Brooklyn born and raised, but her beloved neighborhood seems to change every time she blinks. Condos are sprouting like weeds, FOR SALE signs are popping up overnight, and the neighbors she’s known all her life are disappearing. To hold onto her community’s past and present, Sydney channels her frustration into a walking tour and finds an unlikely and unwanted assistant in one of the new arrivals to the block–her neighbor Theo.

But Sydney and Theo’s deep dive into history quickly becomes a dizzying descent into paranoia and fear. Their neighbors may not have moved to the suburbs after all, and the push to revitalize the community may be more deadly than advertised.

When does coincidence become conspiracy? Where do people go when gentrification pushes them out? Can Sydney and Theo trust each other–or themselves–long enough to find out before they too disappear?

i bought this book here is my honest review

Crazy things happening in this quiet, broke down part of town, when the neighbors are always looking out their windows how does something go amiss? when Sydney and Theo are working on a history tour for the neighborhood block party, they start to notice weird things that are taking place around them, neighbors missing then their homes are getting new owners. something bad is happening and will they find out what’s happening before it’s too late? this book i was looking forward to reading only to be disappointed it was very slow and took a while to really get into it. definitely not total thriller vibes till about the very end.

#review #YA #thriller The Dare by Natasha Preston

Would you accept the dare?

In Marley’s town, seniors are given a prank as a rite of passage…a dare, if you will. The dares start out simple…egging houses, balloons filled with glitter, chickens running loose in the halls.

But this is no child’s play.

Accepting a dare means you could be expelled, arrested, or worse. No one wants to back down from a dare. But saying yes has consequences, too…

Senior year means planning for the famous senior prank. but when one of the riches families in town take it upon themselves to be the leaders of the pranks one brother after another, it was basically their way or suffer the consequences of saying no to the dare. but what if you dare not only had you braking and enter and theft but also a hit and run, messing with a dead body and inappropriately disposing of a body, its all fun and games till someone gets killed and it could ruin your whole future. so will you accept the dare or not?

When crafting meet murder it had me wondering. fifteen short stories about different crafting technique, and a project to go with each story, but they do come with a twist. learn about paper making, gourd art, mosaics, candle making and one with adding scents, you’ll find a project with a fancy name like okesa, and making potpourri, wreaths, a memory collage and going back to summer camp with macaroni art. this was a different read for me but not terrible some stories make you chuckle.

#review #thriller #standalone Middle of the Night by: Riley Sager

In the latest jaw-dropping thriller from New York Times bestselling author Riley Sager, a man must contend with the long-ago disappearance of his childhood best friend—and the dark secrets lurking just beyond the safe confines of his picture-perfect neighborhood.

The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul de sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again.

Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night. Someone seems to be roaming the cul de sac at odd hours, and signs of Billy’s presence keep appearing in Ethan’s backyard. Is someone playing a cruel prank? Or has Billy, long thought to be dead, somehow returned to Hemlock Circle?

The mysterious occurrences prompt Ethan to investigate what really happened that night, a quest that reunites him with former friends and neighbors and leads him into the woods that surround Hemlock Circle. Woods where Billy claimed monsters roamed and where a mysterious institute does clandestine research on a crumbling estate.

The closer Ethan gets to the truth, the more he realizes that no place—be it quiet forest or suburban street—is completely safe. And that the past has a way of haunting the present.

Ethan was having a normal camp out with his best friend Billy, but when Ethan woke up there was a slash in the tent and Billy was gone nowhere to be found. Thirty years later, still no idea why he didn’t get taken with Billy, Ethan is now back in his childhood home with so many flashbacks and questions now coming back to him. but when Ethan starts having odd things start happening to him that where things between him and Billy, Ethan starts wondering if Billy is trying to tell him something they never found out if he was killed or not, so Ethan just can’t let this slip passed him. Can Ethan remember anything all these years later to help his friend find some peace, what will he do to get those last pieces to this puzzle together and find out what exactly happened all those years ago to his best friend. this book will keep you guessing till the very last page and you won’t see what actually happened coming.

What is better than having a coffee then having it surrounded by baby dragon’s that’s right kind of like a cat cafe but better. Thats always been Saphira’s dream and now that dream was true, she couldn’t be even more in love that her dream has become a reality. but with allowing baby dragons to come in you are risking some damage to happen, since baby dragons can’t control their fire. with 1 espresso machine down and that evening hearing commotion outside she was asked to train a dragon that wasn’t hers, even though she didn’t have her own dragon she knew how important it was for a dragon and rider to bond, and Aiden was left this dragon by his brother who had died. no bond can’t figure out what to do Aiden was desperate and Saphira was the key to his problems. this was a very cute story but very slow paced and way too much story building and setting the scene.

It’s Nantucket wedding season, also known as summer-the sight of a bride racing down Main Street is as common as the sun setting at Madaket Beach. The Otis-Winbury wedding promises to be an event to remember: the groom’s wealthy parents have spared no expense to host a lavish ceremony at their oceanfront estate.

When the weekend wedding of the rich and not so rich takes place in the beautiful Nantucket and everyone is excited and ready to party. the bride and groom pushed the wedding up so that the bride’s mother could be there since her cancer diagnostic has made her long life shorter and she wanted to see her only daughter get married. but when the maid of honor is found dead on the beach this happy weekend turns into a crime scene no one wanted. Will this crime be solved, will there still be a wedding and will anyone be shocked at the outcome of the crime. loved this story the flashbacks didn’t get too confusing, but I didn’t see that ending coming.

#WOTR25 #Review – Given: Project Xol (Book 6) by Audrey Kaye/Amabel Daniels

Taken to a Xol lab, Cassidy prepares to meet the one woman who’s never wanted her. It’s not clear why the scientist requires her now, but she hangs on to two hopes—that Luke has gotten away and is safe, and that the vial of genetic material they’d fought to protect is destroyed. Life isn’t fair, but she pushes aside the cruelty of losing Luke so soon after finding his love. Survival, however it may come, is imperative, because she refuses to fail in ending the diabolical “cure.”Stranded in Mexico, Luke must contact the one person he’s always wanted to keep from danger. It doesn’t take much to convince his brother to be his backup in rescuing Cassidy from Project Xol’s team, and soon, the brothers follow her trail. Even with the help of the billionaire who’d once funded the research, it seems impossible to take down such a corrupt team hellbent on unethical experiments and producing something that can change the world forever. Despite the odds against them, they can only fight until the end, hoping they have made it in time…Given is the final book of the Project Xol series.

Holy what the heck in the Jason Bourne did I just finish reading?!?!?! Project Xol for the win!!!

Cassidy is one of my all time favorite characters. She started out as a meek and timid character but her strong badassedness had shown through time and time again. And she does not disappoint in Given. She is literally at the end of her rope but she knows she needs to do the right thing. She is out of tricks and out of rescuers. BUT, the tricks and rescuers are on their way. Even though she is adopted, she is such a pure and genuine person that she has made strong and unwavering friendships with others that become her family. And they are coming to help her. She has to take down her blood family and the diabolical “cure” as it is wrong. A new human subspecies….um, no thank you! When all things seem against you, monsters against humans, you have to pull out all the stops. When you have overcome so many episodes of hell, you can’t just stop. They do not stop. Not til the very end.

This entire series is a page turner! You will keep going and going and going. There is not one part of this series that I would change. Bravo!

Review by Twinsie Kelly

The truth always wins in the end! While everything worked out and Jagger is released for the crime he didn’t commit, Dallas is missing! WHAT?!

Ok, so, I have to back this up a bit. I said this in the last review too, but I have a love/hate relationship with this series because some of what is happening because it doesn’t seem quite realistic or by the book legally.

**SPOILER ALERT**

Dallas is disabled and is in foster care but has been taken illegally across state lines. Jagger technically has custody of him and is freaking out. He and Rose take off to go after Dallas and his kidnapper. But so much of this seems off. And they end up going to house where Dallas is being kept. Jagger gets shot but the locals aren’t really doing anything. Personally, this seems like a lot of BS. BUT there is plenty of time for extremely hot sex for Rose and Jagger. And all of a sudden, the FBI steps in and BAM! Dallas is saved and everything is A OK.

**END OF SPOILER ALERT**

There are a lot of things with the investigation that were just not realistic which didn’t really sit well with me. It was a very heartwarming homecoming, but it just wasn’t quite enough to make the story great. This was more of a 3.5 for me.

#WOTR25 #Review – Reclaim: Project Xol (Book 5) by Audrey Kaye/Amabel Daniels

Reunited with one of the Project’s original researchers held captive at a cartel compound, Cassidy is tasked with delivering answers about a so-called miracle drug. She struggles with the fear of being separated from Luke, anticipating he’ll be harmed unless she cooperates. The details the cartel wants aren’t forthcoming, and instead, she’s instructed to find another Project colleague in another city. Luke doesn’t sit still once he’s parted from Cassidy. The danger in this jungle is unlike any peril he faced in prison or on the streets, but using his head—and ignoring the ache in his heart at losing what he’s sure is love—he plans an escape.

Once they’re on their way, however, he still lacks the chance to tell Cassidy how much she means to him. They leave behind death and horror to find a scientist in the city. Wrought with doubt and confronted with hostility, they realize they have the key pieces to ending Project Xol. Faced with the responsibility of destroying the resources that could save many lives, decisions are harder to make. And when it becomes clear Cassidy is expected to be reunited with her family, the stakes are higher than ever.

Reclaim is the fifth book in the Project Xol series, which continues in Given.

And here we go again! Within the clutches of the cartel trying to get to the bottom of Project Xol and exactly what Cassidy’s purpose is, is becoming more and more difficult. Hendrick and Cassidy are reunited but Hendrick is in a bad way. He is able to answer some questions but some of his answers just bring up even more questions (I hate it when that happens!). Escaping was going to be difficult enough but saving anyone on the way is a suicide mission. Turns out luck was still hanging around for this hellish ride for Cassidy and Luke. As Tramer continues to come along for the craziness, everyone gets split up, chaos ensues and no one is who you think they are. This story will literally keep you on your toes. There are twists that you have no idea are coming, then BAM! The next cliffhanger!!!! Come along with me to the next book, Given, for the final ride!
