#WOTR24 #Review – No More Black Magic (Here Witchy Witchy Book 1) by A.L. Kessler

A hex. Ancient runes steeped in black magic. A decades-old crime. Abigail Collins has her hands full as a Paranormal Investigation Bureau Agent. Accompanied by a stubborn werewolf, challenged by an overprotective coven, and introduced to a Cult linked to her parent’s death, Abby must solve her case before the murderer comes for her. When an ancient langue connects her past with the murderer’s Abigail might just be in over her head.

Review by Twinsie Kelly

I really love when the blurb to a book instantly pulls you. It is even better when the story consumes you! I am a sucker for paranormal books! Abby is a powerful witch and works for the Paranormal Investigation Bureau, but also works “on the side” for the vampire that raised her. She is brought in to investigate a murder case where the only information they have on the deceased is an intact arm with a murder scene that brings her into a world that involves her deceased parents. As Abby works on the investigation, she uncovers more questions. The further she dives into this, the more her own life is in danger. This is definitely in the suspense category because everywhere Abby turns, there is a new obstacle that makes you question everything you know. It is harrowing and heart wrenching. You never know who is truly on your side. Even then, how close do you let the ones you love in? I did not see the twists at the end. This story is full of magic, criminals, hexes, multiple types of paranormal creatures, and a crazy cult. What more could you really want from a book? I look forward to continuing this series.

A.L. Kessler

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m A.L. Kessler (Amy) I’m a mom of two and we have too many animals. I love coffee and reading especially in the fall when I can curl up under a blanket. I’ve always told stories, but I started pursuing it seriously in high school, back before indie-publishing was a thing. I don’t have a traditional job, my job is being an author and freelancing, and I love it.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first and the last book in the series are the hardest! The first book sets up the expectations and the last book better live up to the expectations that you’ve set.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

Throw in a dead body? Or two? Honestly, I just throw in crazy ideas and then work them out. I’m a ‘pantser’ so I don’t typically write by outline, so if I have an idea I think will work, I’ll run with it.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t be too hard on yourself and don’t compare your path to others. Everyone’s author journey is different, and if you continuously compare yourself, it’ll bring you down and you’ll get discouraged. Take breaks, drink your water, and remember to stretch.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I spend about two hours a day on actual writing, then I spend an hour or so on admin work, editing, and other work related things.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Abigail Collins is one of my favorites (from Here Witchy Witchy) because she gets to say all the things most of us want to say, but shouldn’t.

If any of your books were to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it? What book and who?

I’m horrible at picking out celebrities, but for what book, either No More Black Magic or my Children of the Apocalypse Trilogy.

What is your definition of success?

This varies from author to author, but for me success is where I’m at. I’m doing what I love, I’m out of the traditional work force, and this allows me to be there for my kids and all their fun stuff.

Review of Raven Sorceress by Bella Roccaforte

The Raven Sorceress is a great story full of life altering magic. Truly incredible.

Aisling gets a text, that one text that puts a million different things into motion. Her father always taught her to be prepared, think on her feet, and always be able to defend herself. She never thought this day would come. While she is working through the clues and trying to figure out why people are after her, she meets Ferg. But he is no regular person. He promises to take her to her father and answer many, many questions. The longer she and Ferg travel, the more questions she has especially about the prophecy. No matter what anyone says or does, she finds that fate has brought her exactly where she is supposed to be, and that the prophecy will unfold. Aisling is the Raven Sorceress and has incredible power. The best part is the that the prophecy isn’t exactly what it seems and packs quite the twist to this story. Oh, and the ending! I can’t even begin to tell you about the ending. Actually, I won’t tell you about the ending. You need to read this to understand where I am coming from with. You won’t be sorry.
