Kate Summers’s career on the Police Force came to an implosive end when she was outed as a noted Domme. She now subsists at the fringes, scraping by as she feeds off the misery of others. Catching cheating spouses for divorce lawyers has become her paycheck, and a case brought by the woman who destroyed her career will bring many challenges. To follow the leads and solve a murder, she must reenter the world that cost her career and change roles. There’s only problem, she swore she’d never submit to a man—at least never again.

TWINSIE DEB’S REVIEW

Changing Roles by Ellie Masters
Jake & Kate
PRETTY GOOD
4 Stars

Well peeps, this is Ellie’s debut book, but you’d never know it. It reads like she’s been writing for years. It’s dark, it’s gritty, and it’s full of so much suspense it’ll make your head spin. It has a tough heroine, a sexy alpha, and a plot thick with suspicion. What more could you ask for.

Jake Davenport can be my master any day. He’s part owner in the exclusive BDSM club Stripes and he’s completely taken with Kate, a.k.a. The Mistress of Pain. He seems to have a long road ahead of him in the “Kate” department. Get Kate to like him, check. Get Kate to “pretend” to submit to him, check. Anndd… get Kate to believe in him, double check. Wow, what a ride!

Kate is a Domme, but has been out of the scene for quite some time. When the people who destroyed her career come calling for her help, she has no choice but to get into character and become The Mistress of Pain once again. Kate is an extremely strong female lead character. She never backs down even when she knows she should. I liked her persona, but felt like she could have been just a tad more susceptible to Jake in the beginning.. but that just me!

Good supporting character cast. Loved Pete! Seriously that dude should be like 400 pounds. Every time he enters a scene, he’s eating a damn donut for cripe sakes! The Mayor and his wife, eh… they can kiss my ass for all I care. I woulda kicked their asses outta my office in the beginning.

This is a darker read, but not too dark. It’s suspenseful and keeps you guessing till the very end. The dialogue flows and does feel natural, but the pacing was a bit slow for my taste. There was plenty of tension leading up to the climax, but I just felt that it took too long to get through all of that. I still liked it and I think it’s a great story, just felt it could have been shortened by 150 pages, but that’s just me! Great debut novel Ms. Masters I look forward to more books from you!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ellie Masters has been exploring the worlds of romance, dark erotica, science fiction, and fantasy by reading and writing the stories she likes to read. When not writing, Ellie can be found outside, where her passion for all things outdoor reigns supreme: off roading, ATV-ing, scuba diving, hiking, and breathing fresh air, are just a few of her favorite pursuits.

Wife, lover, and mother are her most treasured roles, but Ellie has played many parts: counter-girl at McDonalds, a research assistant in a Nanofabrication facility, rocket scientist, physician, and now a published author with the release of her debut novel Changing Roles. Ellie is adding to her publications, HEART’S INSANITY: an Angel Fire Rock Romance coming August 2016.

She has lived all over the United States, east, west, north, south and central, but grew up under the Hawaiian sun. Now, Ellie is proud to call herself a Southern transplant, learning to say y’all and ‘bless her heart’ with the best of them. She lives with her beloved husband, two children who refuse to flee the nest, and four fur-babies; three cats who rule the household, and a dog who wants nothing other than for the cats to be his friends. The cats have a different opinion regarding this matter.

Ellie’s favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch, laptop in place, watching a fire, drinking a good wine, and bringing forth all the characters from her mind to the page and hopefully into the hearts of her readers.
