Review by Twinsie Tenise

It has been 2 years, Noah is ready to kill the man you killed his father. What he didn’t expect was to have a change of heart and the reason for this change is infuriating! Adam told him he didn’t want to see it but Lucas refused to hear him. In hindsight he really should have listened.
Adam is a psychopath and trained killer. He has no feelings. Has no idea what it feels like to feel happiness, sadness, empathy, love. Something happens though the moment he sets eyes on Noah and he has a strong urge to protect the other man. This is a foreign concept to Adam. With the help of a couple humans in his life who actually feel emotion, Adam does his best to show the other man compassion and care. Sometimes though, its not just the things we do, but who we are both inside and out that attracts our souls to another. Even psycho killers need a person. Noah is the perfect person for Adam and a wonderful addition to the Mulvaney family.

#review #uglycry Daybreak by: Kate Hawthorne

When a sunny young musician gets stranded with a grumpy mechanic during a snowstorm, a lack of heat is the least of their problems…

Liam Luckett is on an adventure. He’s dropped out of his Master’s program without telling his overbearing parents and set off on a road trip across the country. Armed with little more than his guitar, he’s looking for his best life. He never expected his car to break down in the middle of nowhere Vermont with a huge storm pending, leaving him stranded and at the mercy of a hunky local mechanic.

Jasper Cunningham is in a holding pattern. Three years after the death of his husband, he still hasn’t moved on. A hot, younger stranded tourist is exactly the sort of complication this mechanic has been avoiding. But he also can’t leave him in the snow. He brings Liam home and lets him sleep on the couch. The air is heavy with more than snow, and when the power goes out, the two men become closer than either of them expects.

Every silken note Liam sings on that guitar thaws Jasper’s heart a little. Suddenly, Liam’s itchy feet aren’t so eager to move on. When their feelings get too big to ignore, the bond they’ve formed is tested. Will daybreak leave them going their separate ways?

This opposites attract, hurt/comfort romance features a grumpy widower who is only soft for one specific blue-eyed musician, a remote farmhouse, a friendly dog, and enough snow to knock the power out until love catches fire.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Liam is on a soul searching road trip. Hes trying to clear his head and figure out what he is going to do with his life. He is somewhere in Vermont when he has car trouble so he pulls over and goes in search of help in the little town.
Jasper is sad. He has been sad for years since his husband passed. He doesn’t quite know how to move on but hes decided to try. It just so happens, on the very day he decides this, a stranger will breakdown nearby. Jasper gets a call from a friend about an out of towner broke down. He is the towns mechanic and ends up agreeing to fix the vehicle for Liam. Enter the snow storm as well as some other events and this job that should have been complete by the next day, turns into a bit longer. Liam is stuck with no car and nowhere to stay so Jasper begrudgingly agrees to let him crash at his place for the night…

I’m not sure why I thought this would be an easy read/listen. It started out inconspicuous but then outta nowhere it shattered my freaking heart. Thanks a whole lot for that, Kate! (I’m sure if she read this she would just cackle because she lives for readers tears!) In all seriousness though, I loved this book. Even the parts that made me ugly cry. Both men were perfect for one another and their story was beautiful. It has been 24 hours and I’m still trying to move on. I’m sure I will eventually but I feel like it is one of those books that I will carry with me in my heart.

Review by Twinsie Dee

i bought this book and this is my honest review

When crafting meet murder it had me wondering. fifteen short stories about different crafting technique, and a project to go with each story, but they do come with a twist. learn about paper making, gourd art, mosaics, candle making and one with adding scents, you’ll find a project with a fancy name like okesa, and making potpourri, wreaths, a memory collage and going back to summer camp with macaroni art. this was a different read for me but not terrible some stories make you chuckle.

In my life BG (Before Gourds)I wrote seven mystery novels and edited six anthologies as Marilyn Wallace. I’ve been a high school English teacher, a potter, a pastry chef, and a computer programmer, and now those experiences are fair game for my fiction.

After living in upstate NY and in northern CA, my husband and I have returned to our roots in Brooklyn, NY, where our two grown sons also live.

#Review – The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir

Hildur Knútsdóttir’s The Night Guest is an eerie and ensnaring story set in contemporary Reykjavík that’s sure to keep you awake at night.

Iðunn is in yet another doctor’s office. She knows her constant fatigue is a sign that something’s not right, but practitioners dismiss her symptoms and blood tests haven’t revealed any cause.

When she talks to friends and family about it, the refrain is the same — have you tried eating better? exercising more? establishing a nighttime routine? She tries to follow their advice, buying everything from vitamins to sleeping pills to a step-counting watch. Nothing helps.

Until one night Iðunn falls asleep with the watch on, and wakes up to find she’s walked over 40,000 steps in the night . . .

What is happening when she’s asleep? Why is she waking up with increasingly disturbing injuries? And why won’t anyone believe her?

I’ve been listening to more audio books lately while I’m walking. I’m trying to beat my yearly goal of books read/listened to. But I find longer audio books aren’t for me at the moment and it takes me forever to listen to them. So I came across some 3 hour audio books and it’s the perfect length! With that said, please see below.

TRIGGER WARNING: Animal death, specifically cats.

Now that we got that out of the way, I read a few reviews for this audio book and was nervous to start but also intrigued.

A woman randomly walks 40k steps during the night and doesn’t know why or how or where the heck she went? Sign me up!

But then I learned about the animal cruelty, cats especially and was extra concerned but I started listening to the book anyway. As a reader, can I just say that I love love love the short chapters?

I really enjoyed the narrator for this book and I also loved learning a little bit about Iceland. I will get there one day as well.

I will start by saying that I expected way worse after reading some of the reviews but I’m also thankful for them as well, so at least I knew what to expect in a way.

Maybe it’s because I read extreme horror that I could be desensitized because I’ve read WAY worse.

In this short novella, we learn about Iðunn and her what she does day to day, her friends, family and her partners and ex partners. She’s someone who doesn’t sleep overly well – welcome to the club, sweetheart – but tries to make it so she does. With some tips from her friends, she gets a smartwatch and begins her daily allotted 10k steps.

But she soon learns that she’s also walking while sleeping. As a walker/runner myself, that would freak me out. At the same time, I would be thankful for the extra steps. I would also want to know where I’m going at night and why I wake up so sore.

It takes a bit for Iðunn to figure out what’s going on with her.

I was left feeling a little confused at the end but maybe that’s just me.

Was it all in her head? Did she really experience sleep walking during the night? Was it something else? Split personality maybe?

Either way, even though I was left with a few questions, I still really enjoyed the story and I think the narrator helped with that a lot. I would totally listen to more books that she narrated and also listen to more books from this author as well.

#review #thriller #standalone Middle of the Night by: Riley Sager

In the latest jaw-dropping thriller from New York Times bestselling author Riley Sager, a man must contend with the long-ago disappearance of his childhood best friend—and the dark secrets lurking just beyond the safe confines of his picture-perfect neighborhood.

The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul de sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again.

Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night. Someone seems to be roaming the cul de sac at odd hours, and signs of Billy’s presence keep appearing in Ethan’s backyard. Is someone playing a cruel prank? Or has Billy, long thought to be dead, somehow returned to Hemlock Circle?

The mysterious occurrences prompt Ethan to investigate what really happened that night, a quest that reunites him with former friends and neighbors and leads him into the woods that surround Hemlock Circle. Woods where Billy claimed monsters roamed and where a mysterious institute does clandestine research on a crumbling estate.

The closer Ethan gets to the truth, the more he realizes that no place—be it quiet forest or suburban street—is completely safe. And that the past has a way of haunting the present.

i bought this book and this is my honest review

Ethan was having a normal camp out with his best friend Billy, but when Ethan woke up there was a slash in the tent and Billy was gone nowhere to be found. Thirty years later, still no idea why he didn’t get taken with Billy, Ethan is now back in his childhood home with so many flashbacks and questions now coming back to him. but when Ethan starts having odd things start happening to him that where things between him and Billy, Ethan starts wondering if Billy is trying to tell him something they never found out if he was killed or not, so Ethan just can’t let this slip passed him. Can Ethan remember anything all these years later to help his friend find some peace, what will he do to get those last pieces to this puzzle together and find out what exactly happened all those years ago to his best friend. this book will keep you guessing till the very last page and you won’t see what actually happened coming.

#Review – Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw

A USA TODAY BESTSELLER • A Bram Stoker, Shirley Jackson, British Fantasy, and World Fantasy Award Finalist! • An Indie Next Pick! • An October LibraryReads Pick! • 2022 RUSA Reading List: Horror Winner!

Cassandra Khaw’s Nothing But Blackened Teeth is a gorgeously creepy haunted house tale, steeped in Japanese folklore and full of devastating twists.

A Heian-era mansion stands abandoned, its foundations resting on the bones of a bride and its walls packed with the remains of the girls sacrificed to keep her company.

It’s the perfect venue for a group of thrill-seeking friends, brought back together to celebrate a wedding.

As a horror reader, I really enjoyed this novella. I found the writing smart and it pulled me right into the story.

Kat and her friends are spending a few days at what is known to be a haunted mansion in Japan. Personalities don’t always mesh as we find out there is some animosity between a couple of the characters.

As things progress, they have a night of food, drinks and chatting where secrets come to light and things that should stay hidden, don’t. Friendships are tested but while this is happening, the house they’re staying in has secrets of its own.

They end up coming face to face with a ghost who’s only looking for some company. Nothing wrong with that right?

#Review- You’re Not Supposed To Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron

Instant New York Times bestseller!

At Camp Mirror Lake, terror is the name of the game . . . but can you survive the night?

This heart-pounding slasher by New York Times bestselling author Kalynn Bayron is perfect for fans of Fear Street.

Charity has the summer job of her dreams, playing the “final girl” at Camp Mirror Lake. Guests pay to be scared in this full-contact terror game, as Charity and her summer crew recreate scenes from a classic slasher film, The Curse of Camp Mirror Lake. The more realistic the fear, the better for business.

But the last weekend of the season, Charity’s co-workers begin disappearing. And when one ends up dead, Charity’s role as the final girl suddenly becomes all too real. If Charity and her girlfriend Bezi hope to survive the night, they’ll need figure out what this killer is after. As they unravel the bloody history of the real Mirror Lake, Charity discovers that there may be more to the story than she ever suspected . . .

This was a fun read! I haven’t read teen horror since I was a kid. It was actually my favourite genre to read. much to my daddy’s dismay of course.

This story is about Charity and her friends who work at a camp during the summer. But it’s not your typical camp. They use it for a terror simulation that customers can pay for, which sounds super fun. Only things start taking a turn for the worse. People go missing, although Charity and others think said people just up and quit, people start getting hurt and weird things just start happening.

The camp holds a dark and dangerous secret and unfortunately for Charity and her friends, they get to find out what that secret is. Against their wishes of course.

When I got to the delicious twist, I gasped. I suck at predicting things, so it made my heart super happy that I wasn’t expecting what happened to happen.

So things come to light, people get killed, all at Camp Mirror Lake.

i bought this book here is my honest review

What is better than having a coffee then having it surrounded by baby dragon’s that’s right kind of like a cat cafe but better. Thats always been Saphira’s dream and now that dream was true, she couldn’t be even more in love that her dream has become a reality. but with allowing baby dragons to come in you are risking some damage to happen, since baby dragons can’t control their fire. with 1 espresso machine down and that evening hearing commotion outside she was asked to train a dragon that wasn’t hers, even though she didn’t have her own dragon she knew how important it was for a dragon and rider to bond, and Aiden was left this dragon by his brother who had died. no bond can’t figure out what to do Aiden was desperate and Saphira was the key to his problems. this was a very cute story but very slow paced and way too much story building and setting the scene.

Grant is a musician on a break with an injury. He is in town looking for a relative he never knew existed. Avery is a nutritionalist at the local retirement facility. When a random dog ruins Avery’s morning, that is just the beginning of what is shaping up to be the WORST DAY EVER! As if the heat weren’t enough, the power for half the town goes out and that lands Avery with a few temporary roommates. This book has 2 love stories in one which was a wonderful added bonus. I also loved the magic that seemed to keep happening. This was a great afternoon read.

She spends much of her time in central Indiana as an instructional coach/teacher in the inner city of Indianapolis, being a mom to two amazing teens, and wondering how she and her husband of over two decades haven’t driven each other insane yet. A lot of her time is also devoted to phone call avoidance and her hatred of cooking.

She loves chocolate, hot tea, sweet wine with friends, pizza, and naps along with reading and writing romance. These loves don’t leave much time for housework, much to the chagrin of her husband. I thought I was in love with my best friend. Turned out, I was in love with someone else instead.
My best friend broke my heart.
I try convincing myself that he’s who I’m meant to be with when secretly, I’m thankful he broke things off between us.
There’s someone else but he never notices me staring, hoping, longing for him.
When he finally comes around, after I make the first move, sparks explode but I have to tell myself that it’s just a one-time thing.
Especially when he’s my best friend’s father.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

Both men are attracted to each other but there are a couple of huge hurdles they need to jump before they could ever think about more.
One being the 16 year age gap. And the other one being that Rhett is the father of Shane’s best friend and that makes things even more complicated.
I love the dual POV. Its always nice to know what is going through the minds of all parties. I’m enjoying these MM novellas from JM. My only complaint is that they could be longer. But then they wouldn’t be novellas. Lol I’m just a greedy reader and now I wanna know everything about all 4 of the men we’ve met so far in this series.
