#WOTR20 – #Review – Her Dragon to Slay (Dragon Guards #1) by Julia Mills

Her Dragon To Slay (Dragon Guard Series Book 1) by [Mills, Julia]

Lots of sass and the patented cock of her eyebrow have gotten Kyndel through most anything life has thrown at her. But will her moxie help when her destiny falls at her feet on a long dark trip home from work?

Over 100 years of honor and commitment to his ancient clan’s Guard have made Rayne the fearless leader all are proud to follow into battle. When the long foretold pull of his mate makes the calm, cool and collected Commander fall from the sky will he be able to save his mate from his enemies in time?

The chemistry between this strong-willed curvy girl and fierce warrior makes all the difference in the world where nothing is as it seems. The existence of an ancient race of honor-clad, tradition-bound protectors might be hard to accept but now the dead are coming back to life and holding a knife to her neck.

The Universe made her for him now it’s up to them to stay alive long enough to live happily ever after.

A fun and entertaining fantasy romance. I listened to the audiobook and I think the narrator was wonderful. Hearing her voice gave me, what I thought, was the perfect picture of Kyndel. She is smart, sarcastic and sassy. She was on her way home from work one night and men with ill intent were following her. Rayne is our alpha dragon shifter who felt the pull of his mate and came in to save the day. Some of this is pretty typical with shifter books, the universe made Kyndel for Rayne and when they see each other it’s instant love. She doesn’t understand and he does. Rayne gets hurt during the fight and needs to sleep to heal and she quickly agrees to let him come to her home to rest without knowing anything about this man. She is a smart woman and I like to believe she knows better but it ends up working. This is a short story so things move pretty fast. Kyndel takes Rayne being a dragon pretty easily and accepts his world quickly. There isn’t a lot of character or world building going on but the banter between these two is pretty funny. There was more sexy time than action time and I think I needed more story than sex. So, although this wasn’t my favorite, it’s still a good quick story with a little bit of fun, a lot of sexy time, and a pinch of action and story to finish.

Julia Mills

Mom of two rockin’ girls, Reader of everything, Author of The Dragon Guards series and many more surprises to come!

I am a sarcastic, sometimes foul-mouthed, not afraid to drink a beer, always southern woman with 2 of the most amazing teenage daughters,
a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading who recently decided to write the storied running through her brain. I read my first book, Dr Suess’ Cat in The Hat by myself at 4 and was hooked.
I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down and that all heroes of all the books
I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my daddy! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance.
I am still working on my story but believe it will contain all of the above with as much SPICE as I can work into it. CHEERS!

#WOTR20 – #Review – Smoky Mist (The Legend of the Ghost Train) C.J. Baty

Smoky Mist (The Legend of the Ghost Train)

Jesse Lawson was never afraid of the strange and unusual dreams he had. But lately, they were becoming darker leaving him with a need to discover why he was having them. He believed he would find answers at the site of logging camps in The Great Smoky Mountains. His great grandfather had lived and died there, and Jesse was sure it was Jackson Douglas haunting him.
Carter Thompson never knew his great great uncle George Thompson, but he inherited his land, home, and money. George had come here to America to find work in the lumber camps. Meeting Jesse Lawson was about to turn his world upside down. Jesse’s dreams somehow involved Carter, and the more they searched the closer they became.
George left journals that could clear up many mysteries, including Jackson Douglas’s death. Now it seemed that something was trying to destroy Carter and Jesse’s growing attraction to each other. Whoever it is will stop at nothing to keep them apart, even if they have to repeat the past to do it.

There will be three books in this series. Each is a stand alone and can be read in any order. Each has a HEA.

A ghostly romantic story! This is a new to me author and I am completely happy with this story. The author does a fantastic job of weaving an incredible history into this beautiful story. Jesse has been having some weird “dreams” or “visions” of the past and goes to investigate the source. He meets Carter who runs the museum. These two have a wonderful connection that is so sweet and sincere. As they both start looking into the past they find that Jesse’s great grandfather and Carter’s great great uncle knew each other and were lovers, which was completely unheard of back in that time. As Jesse and Carter spend more time together their attraction grows as well but is jeopardized by Carter’s ex and some forest animals that all seem to have been possessed. They find that the only way to help each other and their grandfather and uncle is to find out the truth about their deaths and to be sure their story was told correctly. Things get super creepy throughout their encounters with the paranormal but these two do prevail. It’s a powerful story with a beautiful HEA. I look forward to reading more by this author.

#AuthorSpotlight #MOA #RoyalReaders – Beth M James

Beth M James

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Beth M James. I’m an author who writes novels based on strong characters, lessons learned, and elements of romance. I write contemporary, fantasy, and mystery. When I’m not writing, I like to spend time with family and friends, take walks, jigsaw puzzles, and spend time at our tiny home up north.

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

I love meeting people. I’ve met some great and interesting people at signings, both readers and other authors. I always learn something new whenever I attend.

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I would have loved to met Kathleen E Woodiwiss. She was the one to hook me on romances.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I’ve learned to be flexible when and where I write since I also have a full-time job. I’ve created first drafts during lunch breaks, I’ve worked on edits in our RV while traveling on the road, and I’ve created stories while sitting on a chair in the middle of the driveway at our tiny home. When at home, I’ll write in the evenings and weekends. I have an office where I’ll sit at my desk or sit on the floor with my back against the couch.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

My favorite memory is being interviewed for an article in Time Magazine about writers and self-publishing. I was just starting out at the time and researching how to self-publish. The interview was by phone, and we talked for an hour. When the article came out, I was so excited to see my name in Time Magazine. How cool is that!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

My prized possession is actually a manuscript for “The Fulfillment” by LaVyrle Spencer. It’s like a lucky charm, having something she created, and that keeps me motivated.

#WOTR20 – #Review – How to Spell Disaster (Unfortunate Spells Book 1) by Jennifer Laslie

How to Spell Disaster (The Unfortunate Spells Series 1)

Being careless with magic is the best way to spell disaster.

Tucker didn’t think his love life could get any worse, until he comes across an antique spell book. When the translation goes awry, instead of finding one girl, he’s bombarded by women left and right. Now it’s jeopardizing both his job and sanity.

Tucker seeks answers at the occult shop, but the witchy owner advises him magic can’t always fix his problems. This time, only true love’s first kiss can lift the spell.

As the magic grows stronger, Tucker isn’t sure how much longer he can survive. But finding the right woman to kiss shouldn’t be too hard. Right?

BookBub

OMG, if you want something that is funny with a ton of crazy shenanigans, then I absolutely recommend How to Spell Disaster!

Who’d a thunk that a crazy old book would turn into such a disaster?! Tucker attempts a love spell and it blows up in his face. Women are throwing themselves at him left and right. At first, he thinks this will end his dry spell and decides to go on a date. But as he continues, the women get crazier. This poor guy has to watch out for his well being too! He goes back to the occult shop to get some advice or possibly another spell to break this one but is told that sometime’s magic won’t work and the only way to break this spell, or curse, is to find true love’s first kiss. Ok, so cliche’, right? Well, when the women start going crazier he has to find something to fix this and the book just sits there….staring at him…. flips to another page… shocks people….the book just taunts him. When he thinks he finds a “nice” girl they end up being some sort of psycho. This story had me dying laughing all the way to the end. Love is always found in the most unlikely of places and poor Tucker has hellish luck. This was a super fun story and rooting for Tucker was the best part! I look forward to continuing this series.

#WOTR20 – #Review – Control Us (The Next Generation Series #1) by J.M. Walker

Control Us (Next Generation, #1)

Zach

She was innocent.
Passionate.
Fierce.
After Luna Stone and I went from friends to lovers, my only purpose was showing her how worthy I was. But how could I convince her when I didn’t believe it myself?
I craved her touch and her smiles but most of all, her heart.
I vowed to protect her and show her father that I could be the man for his daughter.
I pushed.
She pulled.
And when all was said and done, I’d have to go through an even higher power to prove that I deserved her…
Myself.
~
Luna

He was quiet.
Withdrawn.
Intense.
Zach Porter and I had been friends since we were kids, but it had never amounted to anything more than that. Until now.
But as close as we were getting, he was still closed off.
He protected his heart and put up walls, even though he had no reason to.
He shoved.
I grabbed hold and never let go.
If I didn’t fight for what was ours, he’d succumb to his demons and believe their vicious words telling him that he’s not good enough. To give up.
On us.

Reader beware, once you start this incredible story, you will not put it down until the end. This is the next generation after King’s Harlots. You won’t need to read King’s Harlots before The Next Generation but I highly recommend it. King’s Harlots is an intensely amazing series and I believe The Next Generation will be just as powerful.

First things first… Zach F’n Porter! *ahhhhh* Even though Coby and Brogan adopted Zach, he reminds me so much of Coby. Zach had a dark childhood and has some really significant demons that he fights daily. It really warms my heart to see how his parents continue to help him through these issues to overcome them. But like most of us, Zach is his own worst enemy. Now to get to Luna. She may just be the most innocent of the bunch. She is sweet but can bring on the sass with the best of them. She has such a kind heart and wants to help anyone she can. Zach and Luna have always been great friends growing up, but now that they are adults, things start to change. They have a passionate connection where the heat continues to build and many times is close to combustion. There is a delicate push and pull between the two as they try to figure out their feelings for each other. There are many things that can go wrong and a lot of outside forces trying to keep them from each other. However, the one thing that can make or break this is Zach. He has to get past himself or this can go all wrong.

This is a powerful story full of love and compassion with a few personal demons thrown in the mix. Bravo, JM! Can’t wait for more!

#AuthorApotlight @MOA #RoyalReaders – Lizbeth Selvig

Lizbeth Selvig

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I’m Lizbeth Selvig. I live in southern Minnesota and I write contemporary small town and western romance. I’m also planning to add Scottish contemporary to my list soon. In my non-writing life, I love to quilt, read, horseback ride, travel and, especially, hang out with my three grandkids. We are also an extended family filled with animals–from many horses to dogs, cats, alpacas, goats and a pot-bellied pig! I’ve been married since forever to my real-life romance hero and we’ve raised an equine veterinarian daughter and a musician/business major son. We also love to hike and have made several long-distance (200-mile/100-mile) treks.

When you are writing, what are some go to’s that you needs? IE Foods to eat, noise level, place to sit.

I generally love to have it quiet in my house when I write. I can deal with music–especially instrumentals or nature sounds–but I definitely can’t have a television on because that is a shiny, glittery thing and I can’t leave it as background–I have to watch! (Shiny object syndrome, you know.) So–no distractions for my squirrel brain is the best bet. Weirdly, though, I can go to a coffee shop and write just fine despite the other people. I guess they aren’t as glittery and distracting as moving pictures!

What are you favorite things about attending signings?

Definitely meeting the people–both readers and other authors. I really enjoy the opportunity to tell new readers about my stories even if they don’t buy my books right there. I love finding out what people love to read! As a bonus, I really like seeing how other authors display their books. I’m always looking for a more creative and attractive way of setting up my table–and my fellow authors are always so inspiring!

What author would you love to meet (Who is your unicorn author)?

I have been so lucky to meet many of my favorite authors over the years. One of my new favorites is JoJo Moyes (“The Giver of Stars” and “Me Before You”). She isn’t really a romance author but I’ve fallen in love with her talent and the way she crafts a story. I’d also really love to have a one-on-one conversation with Tami Hoag. She was one of the original members of my local RWA chapter and I’m “friends” with her online. But I’m just getting into her books and would be thrilled to meet her in person.

When you are writing, do you have a consistent schedule where you write every day at the same time or are you a sit and go on different days to get it done kinda person?

I only WISH I kept a consistent schedule! I am so random about when I write–but I definitely do not advocate working that way! I am motivated by deadlines, so I write the most and best when I HAVE to get things done. I’m also a pathological night owl and write most easily from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sadly, when I have to be up early in the morning, that doesn’t work well so I’m always trying to find a consistent time that really works.

What is your favorite memory so far as an author?

Winning the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart award and later finaling in the RWA RITAs were both career highlights. But I think my favorite memory was the first time I got a review that said my book had changed a reader’s perspective and made her life better. That was a pretty big “Wow” moment!

Do you have a book that is your most prized possession? What is it and why is it so amazing?

I guess the closest I have to a prized book is an old hardcover edition of LaVyrle Spencer’s “Morning Glory” that she signed at an event years ago. I told her I was aspiring to be an author and she wished me good luck with my writing in the inscription. She was my first real author-hero, and I am convinced her good wishes kept me working toward being a little like her!

I bought this book and this is my honest opinion

Holy moley was this a great book I’ve had a hard time trying to put into word how much i loved this book while not giving important information away. Ariel was just your average girl well as average as she could be she was just moved from her high school that she loved because she could blend in with the crowd and no one noticed her. Her mom was a whore and went from one rich man to the next and didn’t care how she ruined Ariels life in the process. So at a new school with everyone is staring and talking about her Ariel definitely didn’t like it one bit. Then things started to change the boy next door never talked to anyone but everyone noticed that he treated Ariel differently, and when he paired up with her for a class project she wasn’t too sure how to handle that i mean after all he was very good looking but he did snarl at her. Well there is more between these two then just looks and class projects they definitely had some magic flowing between them. This book will get you hook line and sinker, feeling for Ariel and her mothers relationship, curiously wondering about the next door neighbors and why they are all so sexy with their good looks, and wondering what is up with this new man candy her mom has claimed this time.

I received this book from the author for my honest opinion

Wow wow wow, Luna wanted it all a family, career and her best friend since they were kids. Zach was a troubled kid then was adopted into a loving house, but that didn’t stop the torture he went through as a child from creeping into his mind. Once these two let their feelings be known nothing could stand in their way well except for Luna’s dad that is no one was good enough for his daughter. But Zach and Luna didn’t care they wanted what they wanted but his past might just get in the way of their happiness. This book was amazing there aren’t enough words to use to describe how wonderful it is with some twist and turns and shocking surprises it’s gonna get you hook line and sinker.
