#Review #MMRomance #Novella —Sailor Boy by: Kris Jacen (All American Boy Series)

All American Boy Series

Jeremy Riley fell in love with sailing when he was a troubled teen and sent away to camp for the summer. Now he’s sailing for a living. Getting a bachelors in vessel operations was the best thing that he could’ve done. Most of the year, he’s on the ship helping with hands-on education for the New England Maritime Academy.

The bright spot in Kendall Winters’ life is his daughter, three-year-old Savannah. How his sister had deserted Savy when she was diagnosed with cancer and needed her the most boggled his mind. Her loss was his gain — and there was no way he was ever giving Savy back to her. Now if he could find someone to share Savy’s highs and lows with, that would be amazing.

A summer trip to the Tall Ship Festival to get away from his parents and let Savy explore ‘boats’ seems like the best idea. Sun and sea for him and Savy sounded perfect to him. Add in a gorgeous sailor with eyes that sparked with mirth? Sign him up.

Review by Twinsie Tenise

As the story begins we find out that Kendall has been raising his niece as his own child since his POS sister jumped ship and gave up her rights. We also find out early on that Kendall’s mother is a pretty crappy human but we shall do our best to ignore that old loon. Needless to say, Kendall needs to take a weekend to go somewhere fun with his daughter. He decides a weekend away at a boat festival is just the place to go since his little Savvy is obsessed with boats.

Jeremy is a sailor and the ship he has been a part of its crew for a few years now is in the festival Kendall and Savy are going to this weekend. I’m sure you have an idea of what you think happens next but I will leave you to find out without me spoiling it for you.

I enjoyed this quick MM read by new to me author, Kris Jacen. I give it 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

Kris Jacen grew up just north of Boston, Massachusetts, and currently lives in western New York with her two daughters and three rambunctious dogs. She always said she was “only an editor” but then Mackey showed up and proved her wrong.

She after editing for over fifteen years, she opened her own editing/formatting/cover art company, Three Hearts. #WOTR22 – Order of Fear by Lisa Caviness

Order of Fear

Sometimes fear is all that keeps you alive.

Murder
A senior account, ballet dancer, and future bride, Marissa Nash likes order, and she expects all the pieces of her life to add up. Her bottom line is skewed after she discovers her fiancé has been unfaithful. When Marissa walks in to the unexpected—David dead and her dog, Halo, agitated and restless, she finds her nightmare is only beginning.

Passion
David’s unenthused best man and traumatized former Army doctor, Justin Tanner understands that a wedding means more than a toast and a kiss. His reluctance stems from feelings that run deeper than they should for the bride. But when he finds Marissa cradling his best friend’s lifeless body, can he find a way to suppress his feelings as they uncover David’s secret world?

Evil
The seemingly pointless murder launches Marissa and Justin into a wicked web of lies, delusion and danger at the hands of a powerful and psychotic foe.

Murder, passion, evil—who will survive?

Goodreads

5 very suspenseful stars! Oh. My. Wow! I don’t know why it took me so long to read this but holy hell I got hooked! This story is an incredible web woven with deceit, lies, loyalty, and passion. This is one of those books that starts out with a bang and and never stops until the very, very end. An absolute page turner!

First, Marissa….she is about to get married and is gone on a business trip. She is planning to call off her wedding to David when she returns because she found out he has been unfaithful to her. Things go awry and she is late coming home but when she does she finds David’s dead body in their home.

Second, Justin….the best man is super agitated with David as he hasn’t been able to reach him for days. He goes to the house to find Marissa cradling David’s dead body.

From here the story gets twisted!!!!! The two are being followed, an explosion happens and people are dying all around them. A coincidence? NOOOOOOO! Just keep going….Not everyone is who they seem but can you figure out who doesn’t belong? Nope! Not ‘til the end! This roller coaster of a story keeps you rooting for Marissa and Justin but then….do you? I was so back and forth with the idea of them and exactly how this was all going to pan out that I just couldn’t stop reading. And let me tell you about the bad guys. I don’t know what was going on in the author’s mind at the time of writing the antagonists but daaaaang are they bad! Written so good but soooo bad! The story is full of heightened emotions and ends up being very evil. Full of danger with the exact right amount of passion and love. An absolute must read!

#TrueCrime #Audio #Family #murder – If You Really Love Me by Ann Rule

There was only one way to please her father: Murder his wife….

David Brown was the consummate entrepreneur: a computer wizard and millionaire by age thirty-two. When his beautiful young wife was shot to death as she slept, Brown’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Cinnamon, confessed to killing her stepmother. The California courts sentenced her harshly: twenty-four years to life. But in the wake of Cinnamon’s murder conviction, thanks in part to two determined lawmen, the twisted private world of David Brown himself unfolded with astonishing clarity — revealing a trail of perverse love, twisted secrets, and evil mind games. A complex and often dangerous investigation suggested a horrifying scenario: Was the seemingly bland David Brown really a stone-cold killer who convinced his own daughter to prove her love by killing for him? A man who turned young women into his own personal slaves, who collected nearly $1 million in insurance money, and married his dead wife’s teenage sister, David Brown was a sociopath who would stop at nothing…a deadly charmer who almost got away with everything.

If You Really Love Me by Ann Rule

I purchased audio,

I am a huge podcast listener.  I love true crime.  I am also an avid audio book listener.  Well one day I had credits to burn, and no books were really hitting my interest.  Then I scrolled and BOOM this book!!  I have heard this story told on a podcast I love…HELLO Morbid is the Bees Knees if you are a podcast fan!!

So this book is not the full story from what I have been told.  It’s a shorter version but it hits all the highlights.  Essentially all you need to know is David is an awful man who manipulates all the women in his life.  He is a POS and don’t feel sorry for him.  I al so wanna say I get he groomed his wife’s sister AKA his NEXT WIFE but I don’t feel as bad for her but am glad she opened her eyes to him.

Cinnamon is the biggest victim in the whole med. This is a 14 year old girl who took the fall for her father because “If you really love me” you will do this for me…ya know kill my wife/your step mom.

The whole story is sad and tragic but Ann did a great job narrating it for the listener.  Ann takes us through the murder, trial and subsequent changes to the story for all the players involved.

Ann Rule was a popular American true crime writer. Raised in a law enforcement and criminal justice system environment, she grew up wanting to work in law enforcement herself. She was a former Seattle Policewoman and was well educated in psychology and criminology.

She came to prominence with her first book, The Stranger Beside Me, about the Ted Bundy murders. At the time she started researching the book, the murders were still unsolved. In the course of time, it became clear that the killer was Bundy, her friend and her colleague as a trained volunteer on the suicide hotline at the Seattle, Washington Crisis Clinic, giving her a unique distinction among true crime writers.

Rule won two Anthony Awards from Bouchercon, the mystery fans’ organization. She was nominated three times for the Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America. She is highly regarded for creating the true crime genre as it exists today.

Ann Rule also wrote under the name Andy Stack . Her daughter is Goodreads author Leslie Rule.

#NewRelease #DoubleReview – Famous in a Small Town by: Kylie Scott

He was looking for serenity and he may have just found it in her.

Famous in a Small Town, an all new small town, grumpy meets sunshine rock star romance, from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott, is now available!

What chance does a small-town girl have with a world-famous rock star?

Two years after his wife’s death, rock star Garrett Hayes hasn’t moved on. But he has moved out of L.A. Where better to escape his past than a small town in the northern California mountains? If only he could get the townsfolk of Wildwood to leave him the hell alone.

Ani Bennet returned to her hometown for some much-needed serenity. The last thing she needs is a grumpy, too hot for his own good, rich and famous rock star living next door—and rent-free in her brain.

She set her fangirl tendencies aside and deleted his photo from her cell when they became neighbors. But when Garrett asks for help, she can’t say no. The problem is, spending time together is making those fangirl feelings resurface—and bringing them to a whole new level.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given the book by the author for an honest review.

Kylie is the queen on snarky language. I love that about her stories. I always know I will get banter or humor with characters. This book was another great one.
I do have to say I loved that this book wasn’t like her other rockers. Garrett is kinda a broken man. His wife and band are gone. He goes and is trying to rebuild his life and happens to move in next door to Ani. Ani is also a woman who has some issues herself to work through.
The chemistry between the two is a great slow burn. They have a delicious spark that ignites when they are together more and more. They have a lot of stuff to work thought but that is what makes the story all the more amazing of a read.
I absolutely loved it and would more of the side characters if they are developed for more books.

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Kylie has such a wonder way of telling a story with a new spin.  I enjoyed seeing Ani and Garrett’s story unfold in this small-town hideaway.

Ani ran home after being in the big city to hide away. Garrett lost the love of his life and ran away to hide from everyone and everything.  Ani never expected her new neighbor to be the one and only Garrett that she used to fangirl over. Garrett never expected to have a neighbor that could help him learn to live again.

I loved watching these two “not” date and get to know one another.  Will Garrett’s fame be too much for Ani to handle as a small-town girl. Can Garrett make a life in a small-town after being in the spotlight for so long? I enjoyed getting to know all the characters in this book and I want to know so much more about some of them.  Smith really has intrigued me along with the other band members and would love to know more of their stories.

#NewRelease – Piper’s Purgatory by Maureen A. Miller

PIPER'S PURGATORY by [Maureen A. Miller]

Is it possible to fall in love in the afterlife?

The last thing Piper Malko ever expected was to have her life snatched away so early. When she wakes up on the front steps of her brownstone to a rose-colored facsimile of her world, she is forced to come to grips with her demise. Why is she still trapped on her street, though? Was there a debate as to her final destination? Any attempt to ask the gauzy pedestrians passing by goes unheard. No one notices her. Until she sees him—over six feet of well-defined humanity staring back at her from across the street.

Russell Hughes is dead. He can remember the impact of the car. But there was no bright light. No portal to the beyond. Instead, everything around him is pink. Except for her. The attractive woman across the street.

Together, Piper and Russ try to piece together the crime that killed two strangers on the same road. If they can find their killer, then maybe they can escape this rosy limbo.

But will leaving purgatory tear them apart…just as they’re falling in love?

#WOTR22 #Review – Homecoming Homicide: Magical Bureau of Investigation book 1 – By: Albany Walker

“Hey Frankie, we need ya.”

One phone call, five words, and I’m back in the town I swore I’d never return to.

Hill Crest Library smelled bad, and it wasn’t just the corpse in front of me causing it. The once beautiful building had fallen into disrepair over the past few years.

Belinda the new librarian was doing her best to clean it up, but a dead body wasn’t helping matters.

Dad needs help to solve the murder, so that’s what I’m here to do, then get out of town before anyone even knows I’m back

The case should be easy for an MBI agent, even a newly minted one like me, but before I can check into the hotel my three reasons for leaving, corner in the lobby.

My life just got a lot more complicated.

Homecoming Homicide is a Cozy style Slow Burn RH with an adorkable Heroine and Three not so normal Fellas thrown into the mix.

Goodreads

Review by Kelly

I was sucked in when I read the synopsis so I jump right in and the story has my full attention. Frankie is putting off these great badass vibes like she is a woman to be reckoned with. Her dad calls her home because there has been a murder, but she has a past back home that she would rather like to keep there. However, that does not happen. There are three men that she quite literally ran away from but as soon as she steps foot back in her hometown, they are right there in her way. Now she is dealing with a hurtful past and trying to help her dad solve a murder that is tied to magic. The story of the murder from start to finish was very well written and definitely holds your attention. In my opinion, Frankie sort of irritated me, or maybe it was her harem. Naturally, they are all hot and yummy in their own way and Frankie is in a constant argument with her body, brain, and heart. But the vibe of her being this strong woman at the beginning is overshadowed by the men in her life. These guys are seriously overstepping some boundaries and don’t let her have a say in much at all. Even if done out of love, it got irritating. However, the snark and sass that she gives off is great and her familiar is a hilarious addition to this group of characters. Overall, the story was good and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Albany lives in Michigan where she’s happily married to her high school sweetheart. She spends most of her time juggling her four children’s extracurricular activities, with her nose stuck in a book. When not reading you can find her writing her very own book boyfriends. Albany’s passion is writing romance with real characters that are far from perfect, but always seem to find their own happily ever afters.

#Review – The Bitches of Everafter (Everafter Trilogy #1) By: Barbra Annino

23546379. sx318

From the author of the number #1 bestselling book, OPAL FIRE, comes a brand new spellbinding trilogy inspired by fairy tale characters.

These are not the mild-mannered maidens of your childhood. These are fallen princesses and fierce women with no recollection of who they are, where they came from, or how they arrived in a mysterious town called Everafter. All they know is that they’ve been sentenced to a stretch in a half-way house by a malicious judge with an ax to grind. They’ve been stripped of their freedom, their kingdoms, and their true loves. Now, they have nothing left to lose.

Snow White is the newest parolee to arrive at Granny’s House for Girls. It isn’t long before she learns that her housemates harbor secrets, and that the mansion itself is a meandering enigma. She stumbles upon forbidden doorways, ghostly passages, and walls that seem to breathe. Determined to find out what’s really happening inside those old walls, Snow embarks on a dangerous discovery mission. Not everyone is thrilled about her nosing around. In fact, there are some who would kill to keep the secrets that the house—and its occupants—hold.

Review by Kelly

Oh lookout! The princesses we all grew up loving are parolees! “We’re not friends, Princess. This isn’t a fairy tale.” This is a very creative take on the fairy tales we all know with surprising turns behind every locked door. I mean, these princesses are twisted but absolutely delightful, Bahahaha! “It’s colder than a witch’s wart wearing a flannel eye patch in here. Turn the blasted heat on!” There were many times while reading this that I was literally laughing out loud at the shenanigans that were happening. It had me in stitches! On top of just the funny, there is a really great story here. And because we all know these characters, or at least we thought we did, it keeps you on your toes turning the pages trying to figure out who is behind the trickery…and why. A great twist on old fairy tales!

Barbra Annino writes about strong women with a flair for humor and a penchant for trouble. Review by Kelly

I will never get enough Ren! There. I said it. He is one of my most favorite characters ever! He is very simple but mostly complex, and this story definitely gives you all of Ren. I love that there are so many characters from the other Dream Travelers series included in this story. Obviously there is tons of snark and sarcasm that we have all come to love of Ren, but the other characters are dishing it out too.
“Home isn’t where the heart is. That’s in your chest. Look it up. Every goddamn anatomy textbook will prove I’m right.”
Right from jump…there’s Ren. However, this book shows a side of Ren that really gives you some closure with him. He can be considered cold-hearted and very blunt, but he is the one person you don’t want to mess with when you are trying to take his very livelihood. Underneath all that snark and red hair is a softy. (shhhh, don’t ever tell him I said that!)
Everyone…literally everyone should read this! An absolute must read!
