#urbanfantasy – Veiled Justice by Heather G. Harris

Murder has crashed the party, so justice won’t wait for an invitation.

Champagne, caviar… and a corpse. This high-society party wasn’t meant to end in murder. When my brother calls me to investigate the brutal stabbing of a female ogre at the charity ball of the season, the glittering magical elite quickly become a sea of suspects.

Everyone who’s anyone was there, but glamour has given way to something far darker. Someone’s playing a deadly game, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s my job to cut through the beauty and lies to find a killer hiding among the rich and powerful.

As a police inspector with the Connection, I’ve seen plenty of strange things, but this case reeks of entitlement, secrets, and old money with something to hide. Then the King of the Ogres storms in. Furious and formidable, he demands justice. Stopping him from tearing through the guest list is almost as hard as keeping my mind on the case, because rage and power look annoyingly good on him.

But when a dryad turns up dead at another elite event, I realise I’m chasing a serial killer who thinks they’re too rich to face consequences… and they’re setting my brother up to take the fall.

With a rookie partner finding his feet and my talking-bird sidekick offering sharp advice (and sharper insults), I’m racing against the clock to solve the case before my brother faces the lethal justice of the Other realm…

From my past. From the people who hurt me. From a system that never once protected me.

I never expected a bounty hunter to track me down so fast.
Or for him to be the most dangerously handsome man I’ve ever met.
Cyrus is relentless, intimidating… and completely unreadable.
But the moment our eyes meet, something shifts.
He’s not just here to bring me in—he’s something else. Something more.
And the way he looks at me makes me wonder if running might finally be over for me.

Cyrus
Each of the Alphas has a responsibility, and mine is cracking down on crime.
That means that I hunt fugitives for a living.
Bring them in. Collect the reward. Move on.
That was the plan—until I found her.
Mina.
The moment I see her, I know the truth.
She’s mine. My fated mate.

If I don’t, I could lose everything else.

#newrelease -Snatching The Chronos Hourglass by Brenda Trim

My name is Nylah Gilbert, and my work-life balance is absolutely shot.

By day, I’m a firefighter dealing with ordinary emergencies like kitchen fires and idiots who think fireworks belong indoors. By night, I’m apparently the universe’s go-to girl for hunting down ancient artifacts that want to murder everyone.

Because naturally, when my grandmother’s antique watch starts having a temporal breakdown and clockwork beetles invade my living room, someone thought, “Hey, let’s dump this on the middle-aged mom who’s already juggling a full-time job, teenage daughters, and a husband who turns furry once a month.”

Thanks, universe. Really feeling the love here.

Now I’ve got fragments of some godly hourglass burning holes in my bag, my husband’s been yeeted into another timeline, and my girls are casting spells between homework assignments like it’s totally normal. Did I mention the fanatical cult trying to rewrite history? Because that’s apparently my weekend now.

The Brotherhood thinks they can use the Chronos Hourglass to “cleanse” the world of technology. What they’re actually going to do is turn everyone into medieval peasants while they play god with the timeline. Over my dead body.

I’ve got my best friends Kaiya and Aeira watching my back, a Pegasus who’s seen some serious stuff, and enough magical firepower to level a city block. The universe picked the wrong part-time Relic Keeper to mess with.

Time’s running out—literally—and if I don’t stop these lunatics before dawn, Washington D.C. becomes ground zero for the apocalypse. No pressure or anything.

Good thing I’ve always been better at putting out fires than starting them. Though at this point, I might have to burn down half the world to save it.

Snatching the Chronos Hourglass – because when time goes sideways, someone’s got to clock out and save the world.

#NewRelease #Review – Protected from Malice  (Special Forces: Operation Alpha) (Blade and Arrow Shadow Team Book 1) by Gia Cobie

At first, I thought it was just paranoia.

It wouldn’t be the first time, after all. Ever since that night two years ago, I’ve never felt completely safe. So I convinced myself the strange sense of being watched was all in my head. My PTSD flaring up just as it had in the past.

Then I was nearly run off the road on my way home from work, and as much as I wished it was just a coincidence, I knew it wasn’t.

I could go to the police, but I wanted someone I trusted to help me.

So I called Rafe. My brother’s former teammate and best friend. And—though I’d never let on for a second—the man who’d held my heart ever since I met him.

As soon as Eden told me she was in trouble, I dropped everything to help her.

“Maybe it’s nothing,” she told me. “But things have been happening.”

I didn’t need to hear more. If Eden needed me, I would be there. And if someone was bothering her, I’d teach them that they messed with the wrong woman. Because as a bounty hunter and former Green Beret, I’m the last person they want to piss off.

When I arrive in Portland to find Eden terrified and in danger, every protective instinct comes roaring to the surface. And I’m furious that someone would dare try to hurt her.

I’m not the white knight I always thought Eden deserved. Far from it. But I’m a dangerous man when someone I care about is threatened. And Eden? I’ll do anything to protect her.

Protected from Malice is a slow burn friends-to-lovers story with a morally grey hero who’ll do anything to protect the people he loves, a brave and intelligent heroine, a team of Army veterans, thrilling twists, and plenty of sweet and steamy moments. No cliffhangers and a happily-ever-after guaranteed!

Review by Twinsie Melinda
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

In the beginning I thought Eden was going to be a meek quite character but that was not the case I learned that when she was trying to get away from who ever was chasing her one night. Eden is actually one of the stronger characters I have read in a while with everything she has been through. I absolutely loved Rafe really one phone call and he was on his way to help his former teammate and best friends’ sister. He was amazing with Eden even helping her with panic attacks. The way all the guys are with Eden was amazing especially when she was telling them everything that happened to her.

Eden has been holding in what happed to her in the past. She doesn’t want to burden her brother, Indy, as he is dealing with his own issues. There is Rafe who she has had her eyes set on for a long time but there can be nothing there because he is her brother’s best friend. Rafe will send Eden text messages or make the occasional call to check in but she has a feeling he does it because he feels he has to not because he wants to. The Chemistry between these two was incredible.

We get to see new characters in this book and I would love to know more about all of them. This was a wonderful start to a new series I cannot wait to read more about this group.
