#twinsieoftheday – Remote by Lisa Acerbo

When technology fulfills every dream, reality is a nightmare. But where can one rebel hide when even her thoughts might not be her own?

Below the streets of New State, the Grounders fight to remain free of the technological control of the world above. When dusk falls, Wren risks her life by entering the capital city as a raider to secure resources for the rebellion. Each step further inside puts her life in jeopardy from New State’s deadliest weapons – Phantoms. More machine than human, tortured until devoid of emotion and caring, Phantoms have only one objective. Kill. And they do it with exacting precision.

Wren is good at her job as a raider and committed to the cause until she meets Codex, a New State citizen who doesn’t quite fit her preconceived expectations. After a couple of awkward encounters, he shows her the meaning of hooking up—a computer simulation that allows people to live out their fantasies—without the complication of emotional entanglements or physical reality. But what Wren feels for Codex is very real. And it’s punishable by death.

As she and Codex grow closer, Wren convinces him to leave New State for the underground. But unrest between New State and the Grounders escalates, and Phantoms move in to destroy her world. Nothing goes as Wren planned. Families are arrested, loyalties are strained, and Wren’s forced to choose between her people and her feelings. The wrong choice could mean the end of her people, and reality could slip away—forever…

  • ★★★★★ Science Fiction, Romance, and Lots of Action – Remote is one of those books that just hooks you from the first page… – Voracious Reader
  • ★★★★★ Enjoyable & Innovative Novel – Enjoyable Sci-Fi Romance that I highly recommend….5 stars. Overall, novel was well-paced, characters are well-developed, and story is detailed but not too verbose. Although the relationship that emerges between [Codey] and [Wren] is predictable, it did not feel forced or rushed. – Janine
  • ★★★★★ Remote is quite the page turner! – A unique and intriguing blend of science fiction and adventure that really engages the reader and makes one think long after the last page. This book is in the YA genre but will appeal to readers of all ages – there’s honestly someting for everyone. It also is poised for further installments and here’s hoping we can delve into this thrilling world soon again. – Frank T

Review by Brandy

I received this book for an honest review.

The world building in this book is really good peeps. It may be a disturbing prediction of the future
though. So many are dependent or addicted to their phones or other tech that even now there is a
growing concern over the disconnect between people, and kids having trouble dealing with how to
interact with their peers.
In this book people have become completely dependent on tech and barely come back to reality. They
are allowed to do anything they want while in cyberspace but must be almost perfect citizens when not
hooked up. Those in control make tech upgrades the most desirable things to have and people get
artificial limbs to be better at their jobs or for cosmetic purposes. Grounders refuse to live hooked up all
the time and get chips implanted in their brains. This book really brings in to focus the question of how
much government control is too much? How do you trust the ones in control to make the right choices?
Wren forces Codex to face the reality of his world, and they both find that things are way worse than
they thought. New state has been “upgrading” their defenses, and the truth of the programs they run is
truly vile. While Wren tries to do what is right, she starts getting threats that escalate as things get
worse. The biggest question of course is, is Codex worth it? There is a large amount of violence, as
Wren’s world is nowhere near safe, and there is no explicit adult content but a little nudity.

#twinsieoftheday – Knightmare Arcanist (Frith Chronicles #1) by Shami Stovall

Magic. Sailing. A murderer among heroes.

Gravedigger Volke Savan wants nothing more than to be like his hero, the legendary magical swashbuckler, Gregory Ruma. First he needs to become an arcanist, someone capable of wielding magic, which requires bonding with a mythical creature. And he’ll take anything—a pegasus, a griffin, a ravenous hydra—maybe even a leviathan, like Ruma.

So when Volke stumbles across a knightmare, a creature made of shadow and terror, he has no reservations. But the knightmare knows a terrible secret: Ruma is a murderer out to spread corrupted magic throughout their island nation. He’s already killed a population of phoenixes and he intends to kill even more.

In order to protect his home, his adopted sister, and the girl he admires from afar, Volke will need to confront his hero, the Master Arcanist Gregory Ruma.

A fast-paced fantasy with magical creatures for those who enjoy the Furies of Calderon (Codex Alera series) by Jim Butcher, Unsouled (Cradle Series) by Will Wight, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.

Review by Brandy

I received this book for an honest review.

this book was more interesting than the description led me to think it was going to be. I gave it four stars
due to how very obvious who the bad guy had to be, I mean honestly even the book description says
who it is, and the abruptness of the ending. The ending is a bit abrupt. There wasn’t as much tension
due to already knowing who was behind everything. Although, the what and why of what he was doing
was a surprise.
The world building and character development is very good. And all the magical creatures and their
abilities are lots of fun. Volke ends up bonded to a Knighmare which is a suit of armor made of shadows.
However, he is the 2nd person the Knighmare has bonded to and this leads to problems with the magic.
All in all this is an good book, just not an I couldn’t put it down book. I would recommend older teen due
to the violence and complex nature of the main character.

I purchased this audio book.

I have to say this is the first book of this author I didn’t “love”.  I was excited for the couple and loved the whole I am an island and don’t need a mate story line BUT, I think I felt lot as to why he felt that way.  I know this is a novella and its insta-love but I still don’t think we got a reason why?

Micheal is the beta and not at all happy when he sees his fated mate Amelia is besties with his pack Alpha and his mate.  He pushes and pushes Amelia away. She doesn’t give up and is very tenacious about forcing him to communicate with her.

I was bummed we didn’t get a sneak into who is next but I am excited for it.

#WOTR25 #Newrelease #Review – Haven (Stone’s Wolf Sanctuary) Book #3 by: Teresa Gabelman

Raised by shifter parents, Sadie has always straddled the line between two worlds. Now, on the run, she’s desperately searching for a sanctuary where her shifter sister, Lily, can be safe and embrace her true nature. Along their journey, they encounter three brothers, but it’s Kile who awakens something deep within Sadie.

Kile, a wolf shifter working with his brothers at Stone’s Wolf Sanctuary, steps in when he sees Sadie being harassed by a pack hunting her and Lily. As his feelings for her grow stronger, he becomes determined to protect her, urging her to stay at the sanctuary where she can find safety—and where he can claim her as his own.

Now, Sadie faces a stay within the sanctuary’s haven or venture into the human world she’s been kept away from.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received a copy from the author for an honest review.

I was so wonderful to get back to the Sanctuary. I forgot how much I loved these wolves. I may have to go back and do a reread.

Sadie was raised by shifter parents, but now finds herself on the run trying to protect her sister, Lilly. Sadie is determined to find a safe place for Lily in the shifter world. She is in search of the Sanctuary where rumor has it is a safe place for shifters. When Lily and Sadie’s past collide with what they are searching for their lives are about the change.

Kile works at the Wolf Sanctuary when he sees a beauty in trouble, he steps in to protect her and her sister. Kile knows Sadie is his but he has to convince her to stay at the sanctuary so he can protect her and her sister.  Sadie is determined to leave so no more harm comes to her sister or the Wolf Sanctuary.

I enjoyed seeing Kile and Sadie get to know each other. I loved seeing the Wolf Sanctuary growing and being reunited with the characters. Sadie does have issues believing she can live in the shifter world being a human. The way everyone, well ok everyone except for the unmated females, gravitate toward Sadie and Lily especially their cooking. Larry, one of the workers, had me in stiches I mean really. I really hope we get Lily’s story. There is so much more I want to learn about her and possibly Alex.

#WOTR25 #Audio #Shifters #Novella #InstaLove – Curvy Girl Shifters book 1 by DV Fischer

Audiobook now LIVE on the boxed-set.

When Olivia returned home from New York, she had nothing to show for herself. Her photography business was a flop and her love life had gone dry.

In an attempt to get her out of the rut she’s in, her best friends convince her to try out a dating app. She was reluctant at first, but then she got a match.

They meet up and sparks fly, making it the best night of her life. She had no idea that he was a shifter at the time, an alpha at that, nor did he mention the fact that she was his fated mate. She only discovered this after the mating had already begun.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audio book.

Sweet Baby Jesus this author.  I am in love.  Love I tell ya.  I devoured a different audio set last week and jumped right into this series.  Now this series is different in that people know about shifters whereas the last series, shifters were hidden from everyone.

This is another insta-love series and your girl is here for it!!  Jason and Olivia meet on blind date app.  They meet up at the local bar for drinks.  Jason was a few minutes late and Oliva was about to give up on him when he showed.  His wolf was going crazy to claim his fated mate, but Jason has to take the reigns and calm him down.  Yo Wolfie slow your roll and let the human get to know you!!!  The story was just fun to listen to and yes the plot twist was expected but I still LOVED IT!!!

Olivia and her best friends are all enjoy life and happy she is back in town. Jason and his closest shifter friends left their original pack to start their own.  It just to happens they also need some females to complete the full pack narrative.

Guys for real, I am so excited for this series.  Jason and Olivia were a fun read but LAWD book 2 I am already starting because Micheal and Amelia are going to be off the walls awesome!!!!

Review by Twinsie Kelly

I picked this book up on a whim while it was free, then it just sat there. I was scrolling through my kindle trying to find something that caught my eye and thought, “why not” and gave it a try. I am now kicking myself for not picking this up sooner. Holy H E double hockey sticks! The way these two meet is may have been fate or purely by chance. But whatever you believe, believe it because these two were meant to meet. She tries to hide who she really is but with Shade being a cop from Chicago, he knows exactly who she is.

These two are from two completely different worlds. Cops and Mobs just don’t mix. She is used to the finer things and he is used to working for them. He agrees to take her to Texas, however, he plans to ditch her the next morning before she wakes. She is smarter than our good friend Shade and slept in the car! Ha! They come to an agreement and she is part of the roadtrip for the long haul. There are a ton of hilarious moments throughout. The fact that she had never been in a Walmart or just a regular bar will have you literally laughing out loud. But also watching their romance bloom is absolutely swoon-worthy!  She even gets to meet the fam!

Never fear, there will be an appearance from the ex-fiance’ mob douche guy. But as this is a standalone romance, we can all figure out what happens. But the journey there, in the antique Cadillac, with a runaway bride and a cowboy, will have you feeling ALL the feels!

I couldn’t put this book down. I started it reading it and next thing I knew, it was over, like no time had passed at all!  It had all the desirable elements and ended perfectly!

This is a new to me author and I am so happy I took a chance. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Review by Brandy

I received this book for an honest review.

This book is a bit unusual and reminds me of the town in a nightmare before Christmas, but the citizens
are human. It’s creepy, but not scary creepy. I would say it is a good book for early teen and up.
Henry lives with his parents and sister and likes to collect comics. He is tricked and ends up with a pocket
watch that is ticking down to his early death. He teams up with another boy with a pocket watch to try to
find a way to remove the watches that are now stuck around their necks. When they start putting things
together, they realize that they have a bigger problem than they thought. Henry’s sister realizes that
something is going on and starts to poke her nose in Henry’s business.
There is a colorful cast of characters that have interesting little quirks that add depth to the story, and the
world building is really interesting as it has these elements that are normally very creepy, but the way that
they are accepted as normal by the people in the story keeps this book from being scary. There are a few
things that I was thinking “ew” that’s a little yucky, but I think young boys would really like these moments. Boys and girls should both enjoy this story, but I think that boys who have trouble finding things that are interesting to read will enjoy this story. In all I enjoyed this story. It’s quirky, imaginative, and a bit different that what I normally read.

Avery Moray is a storyteller who specializes in middle grade and young adult fantasy. She lives in a land with tall mountains and wide plains with her two furry sidekicks and one non-furry accomplice. She likes sweets, cats, Halloween, and loves creating all kind of things, stories being one of them.

#WOTR24 #Review – ‘Pistol Fire’ in Rocks: The Complete Series by Tori Ross

Rocks: The Complete Series

The complete series is now available!

Deep in the sticks of Missouri is a bar called Rocks where the bartenders are only similar in the fact that they’re all unlucky in love…

Cherry Burn – Dylan Wilcox has been gone from Highlight, Missouri for ten years. Nobody has seen him or even received an email as to his location. Worse, he left his high school girlfriend, Cherry Moss, without saying goodbye when he disappeared. When Dylan shows back up in town, clearly changed in the past ten years, Cherry needs to decide if his story is worth her forgiveness and if she can get over her own demons about him leaving.

Blue Balls – Piper Peck loves her life, her friends, and her job. There’s only one problem. The local sheriff, Creed McDuffy, has it in for her over her grandma’s old hot tub that’s considered an eyesore by county enforcement. Unknown to Piper, Creed has had a crush on her since high school and will do anything to get her to look his way. When Creed goes too far and arrests Piper in a last-ditch effort to get her attention, can he ever grovel enough to get in her good graces?

Pistol Fire – Libby Dean is known for being the town pistol. Brock Carpenter is known for being the town’s hero fireman. When a fire at Rocks Tavern throws Libby for a loop, Brock wants to comfort her. Libby’s not used to comfort, though, and runs away from any affection as fast as she can. But when Brock needs his own comfort, will Libby put aside her pride and step up?

Each short is 12-14k words. HEA or HFN guaranteed!

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Pistol Fire wraps this series up perfectly! Libby gets her time with this book. Libby is known around town as the hardass but she just about broke when her bar catches on fire. Who better to help her than the town hottie fireman, Brock! Yes girls! His description alone will make your panties wet! Well, Libby can’t think straight when he is around and I completely understand why.

Libby and Brock both have their own demons and their own reasons for not pursuing long term romantic quests. Neither will accept help and certainly not from each other. There is a lot of tit for tat with these two. A tragedy strikes, and BOY this will grab your heart strings and pull hard, but even then, they can’t quite get it together for each other. It can be difficult when you don’t know who or what hurt someone to make them so cold. However, when the ice starts to thaw, the dam will break and these two collide!

I love that these two ultimately come around to each other. And their commitment to each other, while unconventional for some, is perfect for them. Absolutely love it!
