#Review – Winning the Witch by Tori Ross

Eliza Owl is all about helping her community. When her friend, Lily Jane, talks her into being a prize in the annual children’s hospital date raffle, she worries something will happen at the event that she can’t control. It’s not that she doesn’t like helping her community or children. The raffle is on Halloween, the one day of the year when her witch power is full and things just…happen.

Jake Salt thinks Christmas has come early on Halloween when he finds out he’s holding Eliza’s ticket. He immediately sets out to make their date a perfect night. But dating a witch on Halloween has its downfalls.

Review by Twinsie Kelly

Modern day witches get their day too! This was such a humorous and quirky read; I couldn’t put it down! Poor Eliza has done some crazy things on Halloween! She has such a difficult time controlling her powers on Halloween and things always go wonky! Boiled Koi fish in the pond and made the ex-girlfriend’s tongue disappear, I mean, what else could go wrong? Jake is an amazing guy who just can’t get enough of Eliza but when she tries to convince him that she really is a witch, things just get weirder and weirder. However, with each outrageous obstacle that they face together, he is able to show her how much he really cares and wants to explore Eliza for who she is, not what she is.

This is a super sweet Halloween read that you will love so hard that you won’t be able quit turning the pages and put down until the very very end! You will be able to see how it feels for a witch to be on the other side of a bonfire!

Review by Brandy

I received this book for an honest review.

This is such a good sequel! I recommend reading book one as this one picks up shortly after the first and
it doesn’t really go over anything from the previous book. This book has it all. Pirates, magic, magical
creatures, secrets and revenge.
Volke and the other apprentice arcanists are sent with their master to protect Griffins during a bonding
ceremony. Arcanists are people who have bonded with a magical creature, similar to having a familiar as
a witch or wizard in other books but a bit more complicated. While on their mission the island they are
on is infiltrated by pirates. Their leader is the one who took Volke’s sister’s eye and this sends her on a
personal mission of revenge. Nothing goes as planned and it’s a race to see if they can beat the pirates
to what they really want.
The world building is excellent and layered on to what was started in book one. You really start to get a
feel for the global interaction of people and cultures in Volke’s world. Character growth is also really
good not only for the main character and his sister but for the other’s in their apprentice group. I would
recommend this for teens. There is no adult content but some violence as these pirates are not messing
around.

Shami Stovall is a multi-award-winning author of fantasy and science fiction. Before that, she taught history and criminal law at the college level and loved every second. When she’s not reading fascinating articles and books about ancient China or the Byzantine Empire, Stovall can be found playing way too many video games, especially RPGs and tactics simulators. holy moly where do i begin, there are a few fires that defiantly needed to be put out while reading this book. Grayson a very good-looking firefighter in Nashville is bachelor living his best life and is a well-known manwhore in the station. but he fights fires, saves as many lives as he and his brothers can, so why he has one-night stands with no strings attached. one morning he had a knock on his door from his neighbors very blunt younger sister telling him how big of an ass he really is. and since that very moment he got a good look at his neighbor he hasn’t been the same. Skye was a single mom to her teenage sister when she got guarding ship of her after their parents died in a car accident. that night changed both of their lives forever and as much as she can’t take it most days, she wouldn’t trade it for the world. now she’s doing hair in a solan with her new gal pals, and she’s actually happy, but one thing Skye didn’t want to feel was something for her manwhore of a neighbor. will Grayson be able to control his hose, and rumor has it magical tongue to let Skye in or will Skye just have to continue to listen to his life saving skills through the walls of their apartments. OMG this book was amazing, I flew through this book and i haven’t done that in a long time I can’t wait to meet the rest of these smoking hot fireman from station 47.

Blurb- Cooper

By day I’m fighting fires and saving lives with my brothers at the station, and by night I’m slinging drinks at our family bar with my blood brothers.
I was happy, but I couldn’t help wanting more.
When I stumble across the stunning redhead and her little boy, it’s like everything I was searching for just appeared in front of me.
When an apartment fire takes everything she’s ever worked for, I can’t help offering my home to her and that chubby faced toddler.
Soon enough, they’re not just living in my home, but now they’re permanent residents of my heart.
And if I have it my way, they’ll never go anywhere for the rest of our lives.

Haley

I never planned to be a single mom, but Roman is the absolute love of my life and the best thing that ever happened to me.
When I moved to Nashville for a fresh start, I never could have dreamed what was heading our way.
When the firefighter with a heart of gold steps in to help me and my boy, I vow to find some way to repay him.
I just never imagined I would end up giving him my heart.
I soon find myself imagining a life I never saw for us… a happily ever after.
But after years of never being enough or wanted by someone, can I trust that he really wants us forever?

Review- i was given this book by the author for an honest review

Haley is a single mama to a cute little boy, living on her own after just moving to Nashville after finding herself pregnant and her parents kicking her out of the house. the only person she ever had in her corner was her older brother Jensen, who is in the military to do anything he can to help his sister and his nephew with anything they might need. When Roman is getting his molars and can’t get any form of relief, Haley is exhausted and while he’s screaming in the store while trying to get a few items Haley finds a tall good-looking stranger coming up behind her asking if he could try to help her little guy. Cooper grabbed some frozen waffles, and it was the best sound Haley ever heard Roman was finally calming down. When Cooper turned that corner at the store he was hit by a ton of bricks, and he was needing to get to know this woman and her son, he can’t stop thinking about them at all. When the Station gets a fire call at Haley’s apartment complex, Cooper is now in a panic until he sees them and knows they are safe, but they are now going to be staying together while Haley gets back on her feet, but once that happens will Haley or Roman want to leave the comfort of Coopers house, or will he chip away at all the walls that she has put up to protect her heart so what happens in her past didn’t affect her life now. OMG these dang firemen are smoking, hawt and ugh I’m needing this station too be real. another great story and I need the next one. but these cliffhangers are torture in the best way.

Blurb- Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders…

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away…because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die

#WOTR25 #SecretRelease #Prequal #SiblingBestFriend #Contemporary #HolidayNovella – Secrets of Timber Creek, Book 5 by SJ Chaynie

This wasn’t the Christmas I had in mind. I didn’t plan on having no electricity, no heat, and for the man I’d spent the majority of my life running from to find me. But here I am. I should have taken his silence for the last two years for what it was. But I’m desperate. The one night we shared may have been a mistake, and he may be Timber Creek’s biggest playboy, but I need help. One knock on his door, one simple question, and I’m suddenly swept back into his arms. But this was just temporary, and once Christmas was over, I’d be back to my normal life.
Except it appears Adam Harper may have other plans……he wants all of my secrets. And he wants to expose ours.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I was so excited when I got an email saying SUPRIZE to this novella drop.  I was so not ready to say goodbye to the gang of Timber Creek, so this gem was appreciated and needed.

We have always seen Bekka and Adam together in the series and NOW we get their book.

Bekka and Tilly have been BFFs since Bekka and her mom moved to town.  Bekka is quiet but appreciates all Tilly and family have done to accept her with open arms.  The only things Bekka doesn’t appreciate is being another notch in Tilly’s manwhore brother’s bed.    Ouch the way he ignored her.

Adam is a man who loves women and not being tied down.  When a chance encounter with Bekka one-night flips him off his kilter he is not sure what to do when he discovers who she really is.  So he does what nay man does and stalks her…LOL  but really that is what the town police officer does.  I mean he calls it duty but whatever.

I freaking loved this story.  The chemistry was amazing, and the storyline kept me turning each page of the kindle wanting to know when they would just admit it all to each other……STUBBORN people.

Since I am not ready for a goodbye can we have another surprise book…I mean a surprise baby would be great in the spring!!  LOL

Review by Twinsie Melinda

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I absolutely love when I am having a bad day and see that S.J. Chanynie sends me a surprise book about a series I absolutely love. How can you not love the characters from Timber Creek.

This is Adam and Bekka’s book and I could not be happier to hear their story.

When Bekka and her mother came to Timber Creek she hooked up with a stranger for one night. Little did she know that he would turn out to be the big brother of her best friend. Bekka became a part of Tilly’s family. Bekka was able to hide how things were going in own family from everyone in the town even her BFF and her family. When Bekka’s past comes knocking on her face literally. With nowhere else to turn she finds herself on her one-night stands porch.

Adam is the town playboy never staying with one girl. When he realizes he had a one-night stand with her little sister’s best friend, Bekka. He knows he has to put and keep distance between him and Bekka. No way he was getting involved with his little sister’s friend.  He does a good job of ignoring and avoiding her since that night. That is until she shows up on his porch with a busted face everything changed after that night.

Like any police officer it is his job to find out what happened to Bekka and help her even if she doesn’t want him nosing around in her business. He finds out about the secrets she has been keeping from their family. He now on a mission to make things better for her.

I love these two as much as I do the other characters. These two made my heart happy they have such amazing chemistry. I loved their 10 get to know you questions. My favorite question and answer was about her Blue and white shirt. AWWW. This is one series I cannot get enough of and sure am going to miss it. I loved this Surprise book.

S.J. Chaynie is a small-town Texas girl who has found a love for writing. She enjoys writing romance, with a sprinkle of suspense, and a little humor. If she is not busy writing her newest ideas, she is spending time with her husband and two beautiful daughters. She believes a good book and a lot of laughs is the best medicine. She brings suspense, love, angst, and sometimes the occasional heartbreak to her stories. Always a HEA, but every character and story she holds close to her heart and hopes they touch yours as well.

I received this book for an honest review.

This book has lots of action. It starts with a bang and keeps going. Chris’s dead wife is back, but not for
long as she is the target of an assassin because she found out some nasty secrets. It’s up to Chris to try
to figure out what happened and why Blair hid for so long. Blair was good at hiding, and even her best
friend didn’t know what was going on. Some things you think you have all put together, but then comes
a subtle little twist that puts a whole different perspective on things.
The narrator is awesome. There are several characters, and the he is great at giving them individuality
and keeping it from being confusing when switching characters. I also enjoyed the unusual pets and
situations with the pets when Chris’s mom gets involved. Did not see some of that coming. Loved the
character of Chris’s mom. She’s a hoot.
In all a good mystery that will keep you wondering if you have it exactly right or if you missed
something. There is a bit of violence and no adult content.

Cecilia has found herself waking up in a unfamiliar place no idea how she got there then all of a sudden she remembered the events that happen her best friend and Xavier were fighting, the gate in the cemetery it was all coming back to her vampires are real, she’s a witch, and her best friend was a hunter and she had no idea any of this was possible let alone happening around her. Her whole life was full of secrets and the biggest of all her mother is alive. With trying to navigate her new life CC thinks or hopes she finally knows the truth to everything or at least, until she finds herself looking at a stranger who happens to look just like her. Life is crazy and when you just learned all of this it’s even crazier in just a blink of an eye or a snap of a finger in CC’s case, but she’s learning that she’s unstoppable in the best way possible or is it. this was such a cute and fun ending to this short series.

#Twinsieoftheday – Crimes Past (Mac Faraday Mystery #13) by Lauren Carr

It’s a bittersweet reunion for Mac Faraday when members of his former homicide squad arrive at the Spencer Inn. While it is sweet to attend the wedding of a late colleague’s daughter, it is a bitter reminder that the mother of the bride had been the victim of a double homicide. The brutal slaying weighing heavy on his mind, Mac is anxious to explore every avenue for a break in the cold case—even a suggestion from disgraced former detective Louis Gannon that one of their former friends is the killer. When the investigator is brutally slain, Mac Faraday rips open the cold case with a ruthless determination to reveal which of his friends is a cold-blooded murderer.

I received this book for an honest review.

This story is interesting for sure. I listened to this on audio and the narrator is excellent. There is the
main story about the two cops that are killed on their wedding day, and then there is a second murder
that gets stumbled upon. There is a lot of players in this story as the cops are killed on their wedding day
and the reception is packed with cops. Cops with secrets. You do need to pay a bit of attention to keep
track of all the players and all the lies that start to come out. Justice is a long time coming and boy is it a
twisted path. There are plenty of lies that partners will tell to protect each other and their personal lives.
The second case involves a nasty neighbor that has it out for dogs and a bad history. I will admit I got a
chuckle when the two cases briefly crossed paths. The dogs are a hoot and help blow the case wide
open.
There are some hints of naughty but no explicit details. In all its a twisted tale that will keep you
guessing even after confessions have been uttered. My only real complaint was trying to keep track of
everything and everybody.
