#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight – Stephanie J. Scott

Stephanie J. Scott

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

I write light-hearted, quirky romance and young adult as Stephanie J. Scott and romantic comedy as Stephanie Jayne. I live in greater Chicago area and grew up in Michigan, where I have set a number of books in both real and fictional places. I’m an avid reader, X-box gamer, and cat wrangler. My husband is a creative himself and we’re often working on projects side-by-side.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The first book for sure since everything is brand new.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

My romances focus on new characters and love interests for each book, but the fun of it is to work in characters from previous books. I’m an ideas person, so I have far too many ideas for books at this point. Though not every idea makes a good book. Sometimes ideas become part of larger plots, or they stay on a list tempting me to write more.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

There are a ton of resources available to writers these days. Honestly, the hardest part is narrowing down which advice to go with. I always say start with free first. Facebook author and writing groups, library groups, books about writing or publishing, affordable workshops recommended by trusted sources. You don’t need pricey courses to start writing; beware, there are a lot of grifters out there who will gladly take your money. My gateway into writing novels was National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) which is free and has great support for beginning writers through their online forums. Their initiative is to encourage anyone to get started writing, regardless of experience.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I don’t write daily. I mostly write on weekends, but aim to write during the week when I can. I have a longtime critique group who I meet up with in person and virtually who keep me going when it’s tough. Marketing work happens all the time–it never stops!

What is your definition of success?

Once upon a time, I wanted to write a book–one book. Now I’ve published ten with another two on the way. I find looking back helps see what I’ve already accomplished and assists with new goals.

Gather round close, for I have a secret to tell.

Late at night, while everyone is sleeping, dreaming of white knights and fairytales. I’m making friends with the monsters.

They call to me, like finds like, right? My biggest secret, I’m the scariest monster I know.

I think I’m the bad guy.

Review by Twinsie Dee

i was given this book by the author for an honest review

When needing to eat intel’s opening up all the windows in the middle of the night, for all kinds of monsters to come into the house. Thats what keeps Damiana alive she’s always knew she was different and no one that she knew was like her. she isn’t afraid of the monsters that lurk in the shadows, but when a human figure finds her home in the middle of nowhere, she has more to deal with then she thought. Lies, deceit and distrust feed her better than anything so you need to watch yourself or your soul could be next. the twist, turns and mystery are great, Albany never freaking disappoints and this is another amazing book by her.

Albany lives in Michigan where she’s happily married to her high school sweetheart. She spends most of her time juggling her four children’s extracurricular activities, with her nose stuck in a book. When not reading you can find her writing her very own book boyfriends. Albany’s passion is writing romance with real characters that are far from perfect, but always seem to find their own happily ever afters.

#WOTR24 #attendingauthor #Authorspotlight #eventsponsor – Traci Douglass

Traci Douglass

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi! I’m Traci. I’m a full-time romance author and fiction editor. I’m traditionally published in contemporary and paranormal romance with Harlequin/Mills & Boon, Entangled Publishing, and Tule Publishing, and also indie publish MM romance under my pen name, T.S. Ankney.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

Honestly, every book brings its own challenges. The first in a series can be exciting because you’re creating everything from scratch, but that can also be a challenge because you also need to think ahead about the other books planned in the series to make sure you don’t write yourself into a box, plot or character wise, that you can’t get out of. Writing the later books can be easier, world-building wise, because you’ve already set up the world. But then you also need to make sure you keep things consistent and don’t contradict yourself because readers will notice. And let you know about it! 😂👍

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

As a writer, I’m always discovering as I go, so keeping it fresh isn’t really a problem. Characters and settings reveal new aspects to me all the time, so… I will say though I also make conscious choices, whenever possible, to choose the new and diverse also, because I like my books to reflect the world I see around me, and different is beautiful, baby! ❤️

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Just pace yourself and write the way it works for you. Trying to impose someone else’s random rules about word counts per day or outlining or whatever, can really intimidate and stifle new writers who are still finding out what works for them. Do what works for you and what gets words on the page. That’s all that matters. 👍

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

I work on my own books in the morning, usually two at a time in different stages of doneness, then work on my day-job editing in the afternoon. So, yeah. It’s a nine to five job for me. ✍️

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

Aw, man. I can’t pick just one. That’s like asking a parent to pick a favorite kid. 😂 I love all my characters for different reasons. 🤷‍♀️

What is your definition of success?

Being able to support myself doing what I love and having readers fall in love with the worlds and people I create. 😊

#wotr #attendingauthor #partofaseries Sweet Southern Memories (Magnolia Grove 2) by C.A. Harms

Zoey

Life doesn’t always go according to plan, a lesson I learned the hard way during my divorce. My first love returns home just in time to watch me pick up the pieces, and the moment I lay eyes on him every memory rushes back.

Jayson Lincoln, the man who still makes my heart beat fast, after all these years. But he’s Doctor Lincoln now and I’m a far cry from the carefree girl he left behind.

I’m learning to navigate life as a single mother of twin girls and he’s reluctantly home to take over the family practice. We may be back in the same small town, but we’re still worlds apart.

Jayson

It’s always been her. No one could ever measure up to Zoey Harding.

And I’ll always regret walking away from her and our hometown, for the big city to chase my dreams.

The longer I’m back, the more the echoes of our past whisper what could have been. But it’s not just about us, and her daughters steal my heart and mend what’s been broken for far too long.

Zoey’s afraid to trust me, but I’m determined to heal the fractures of her heart and prove that this time I’m not going anywhere.

Review by Twinsie Dee

i was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Tragic hits Magnolia Grove when the town doctor passes away. bringing Jayson back home to bury not only his grandpa, but his mentor and his best friend. Now back home after the funeral Jayson found himself in now his office of his new practice, that his grandpa left him. but being back home gave him a chance to get the love of his life back. Zoey is dealing with her hopefully soon to be ex-husband who keeps dragging out their divorce, and also trying to keep her twins safe from it all. So having the boy that makes her heart flutter coming back to town is the last thing she needs right now. Jayson is going to try everything he can to break Zoey’s walls down and get back into her life. But will she allow him to not only into her heart again but into the heart of her twin girls? oh this book had my heart especially from Zoey’s point of view with having my divorce being drug out, and doing everything i could do to keep my son safe and happy.

C.A. Harms is an avid romance and mystery reader. She’s always had a love for books, getting lost in writing and storytelling even as a young girl. She enjoys happy endings and HEA love stories.

She lives in Illinois and enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She holds an addiction for Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha’s and KitKat when she should really be focusing on water and maybe a fruit or two to make herself feel less guilty, but that feeling quickly passes…thankfully.

She is easy going, fun, and although she may seem like one of the quiet ones at first, you just wait until she gets to know you better…that quietness changes, fast

#NewRelease #Review – My Anti-hero by: Tijan

My Anti-Hero by Tijan is now live!

shouldn’t have agreed to this. What was I thinking?
Appearing on a local news show? Just because something happened to me?
I live mostly in isolation on purpose.
But here I am.
I was so nervous that I needed the make-up chair, twice.
And then I walked past his room.
He’s a giant—no softness, all muscle.
And a rich beard that made me want to rub myself all over it.
He made me see stars, literally because the second time I saw him, I tripped.
Or I would’ve, but he caught me, and the cameras were rolling.
Soon, that clip will be trending because he wasn’t just another guest on the show.
He’s Brett Broudou, the Kings’ newest football star.
We couldn’t be more opposite.
The only special thing about me is the reason I was on the show.
Brett, the Super Bowl champion, and me, the survivor who helped bring down the infamous Midwest Butcher.
Brett might not think he’s anyone’s hero, but he’s about to become mine.
A/N: This is a 140k standalone.

I received an arc from the Author for an honest review.

I absolutely love Tijan’s writing so when I saw this one I jumped at the chance without reading what the book is about. I do not usually read or listen to True Crime or dark. I was a bit nervous when I started this and realized what it was about. I have to say I LOVED everything about this book. Billie and Brett both pulled me in so fast and deep it was hard to set this book down.

Billie has been through so much in her lifetime. Always losing those she loves. Being in the house when she lost her best friend and survived the Midwest Butcher. Then loosing her mother and brother within the same week. Billie is a loner likes her life of solitude with her chickens but every year since the killing of her best friend she is tossed into the limelight that she wants no part of. Billie decides to do her first TV interview about surviving the Midwest Butcher, when she stumbles into the one and only Brett Broudou the newest rising football player.

What can I say about Brett Broudou. I loved him really he is a famous football player and always in the media. However, he is not one to search out the fame. To be honest when these two came together I was not sure how it would work. Brett and Billie make the perfect pair. He is so protective of her looking out for her wanting to make sure she is safe. The date he takes her on knowing her love of animals it was perfect.

I felt so many emotions while reading this book. It was like being on the best rollercoaster there were great happy moments, then there was some oh crap now what moments and in between we had sweet and funny moments. I enjoyed seeing new characters and seeing some of the characters from other books of Tijan’s. It’s always nice to see someone you knew and liked. I would love to learn more about some of Brett’s teammates now that we have seen them.

A few of my favorite quotes:

“She left her digits for you.” I snatched it up. “I got her number?” “You got her number.” He studied me thoughtfully. “First time I’ve seen you like this.”

For all the chaos in the world, there was also magic. I didn’t know how to explain it, to understand it, but as Brett drove up the driveway, it was there, Magic. A calm in the storm.

Tricia Andersen

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

My name is Tricia Andersen. I write all sorts of romance – paranormal, Greek god, fighter, contemporary, historical and fantasy. I live in Iowa with my husband. I also have three children and my four-legged baby, Kinnick.

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

I think the first book is the hardest because I have to create the world I am writing about along with the characters. When I work on the additional books in the series, those details are already there.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like to dive deeper into the world I set up or expose something about a character that the reader didn’t know. I also like to introduce action scenes to keep it face paced.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t give up. It can be overwhelming but getting that book out is definitely possible. Slow your pace until it feels manageable again.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

Not enough. Maybe an hour?

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

My favorite character is Freddy from the Gods of DC series. He’s passionate, snarky and is becoming a phenomenal leader.

What is your definition of success?

My definition of success is achieving my dreams. I always wanted to be a writer since I was little. I feel I have been successful.

Skye Malone

Tell us your name and then a bit about yourself.

Hi! My name is Skye Malone. I’m a non-binary author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. It’s nice to meet you!

When you are writing a book, which is harder? The first book in the series or the others after it?

The latter books in the series are always harder. When I’m first starting out, the sky’s the limit on what I can do in that world, but later I have to follow my own world’s rules!

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I am always conscious of when I might be repeating myself or copying what I’ve already done in a previous book, and I never want to do that, so it’s always at the forefront of my mind to keep things fresh and interesting.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Get sleep. Seriously, get sleep. You may think you don’t need it because the rush of writing words is awesome, especially late at night when the world is quiet and it’s just you and the characters, but trust me. Get sleep. Your stories and your health will be better for it.

On a typical day, how much time do you spend writing?

4-5 hours, sometimes more

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

I love them all. Honestly, I do. Plus, picking a favorite will only make the others cranky at me. 😉

What is your definition of success?

Being happy with what I’ve written while also being able to make a living from it.

Do you have anything you want to share that didn’t fit on one of these questions?

Thanks for reading this! Come see me at Writers on the River. I’d love to meet you in person!

#releaseday #NewRelease #Netgalleyarc #DoubleReview – The Last Days of Lilah Goodluck by Kylie Scott

“Be quiet and listen: He is cheating on you. The name of your soulmate is Alistair George Arthur Lennox. You will be passed over for the promotion. The winning numbers are 5-8-12-24-39-43. And I’m very sorry to tell you this, but you will die next Sunday.”

When Lilah Goodluck saves the life of Good Witch Willow as they’re crossing a busy L.A. street, the last thing she expects is five unwanted predictions as a reward. Who gives someone the winning lotto numbers then tells them they’ve only got a week to live? And who believes in that nonsense anyway?

But when the first three predictions come true within twenty-four hours, Lilah’s disbelief turns to mild panic. She’s further horrified when she nearly runs a car off the road that belongs to Alistair Lennox, who just happens to be the illegitimate son of the British king.

While Alistair is intrigued by her preposterous story, Lilah is adamant about resisting the heat between her and the playboy prince. If she denies he’s her soulmate, then the last prediction can’t come true, right? As the days count down, they become maybe friends…and then maybe more. But between the relentless paparazzi and some disapproving royals, finding time for love isn’t easy, especially when her days may be numbered.

Red White and Royal Blue meets The Last Holiday in this delightfully quirky novel from the New York Times bestselling author of End of Story, about a woman who unexpectedly finds “fall in love with a prince” at the top of her bucket list.

Goodreads

Review by Twinsie Angie

I was given this book by Netgalley for an honest review.

I have to say I am a reader of all Kylie’s books.  I will be honest when I say some just wrap me up in a happy bubble for days.  While other books are easy to put down and come back to later.  I was really excited for the premise because I have never heard of a story like this.  So I was hoping for the first vs other book.

When the book started, I was all in.  I loved the way Lilah and Willow met and her reaction to what Willow tells her.  I mean I would have freaked out too right??  ANYONE would have.  Because when you get that information, anyone would ignore it but also kindddda wonder.  When things started to go like Willow said, Lilah FREAKED OUT as I would have.  I mean you meet your soulmate like willow said you would.

The story of Lilah and Alistair’s romance was cute but at times I felt like the chemistry was a little lacking. There were spots when I felt the story was rushing which is also why maybe I felt the lack of the love/chemistry.

Overall, I did like the story and would tell a fan of her writing to grab the book.

I received a copy of this book by NetGalley for an honest review.

I was excited to get this book. I so enjoy a good Kylie Scott read.  This was different but I was intrigued by this story.  I like the beginning and how Lilah finds out her fate.  There were great parts to this book and then there were some ok parts.

Willow gives Lilah the information everyone wants to know about their fate when Lilah saves Willow. She doesn’t believe Willows predictions until things start to go the way the Good Witch Willow says. Then Lilah starts to freakout a bit. Lilah almost takes out the one and only Alistair Lennox the same man Good Witch Willow says is Lilah’s soulmate. I have to say the chemistry between Alistair and Lilah is great. Along the way Lilah finds Alistair is a kind loving amazing guy. I enjoyed reading and seeing Lilah complete things on her bucket list and seeing all Alistair does to help.

This was an enjoyable read.  I did find it easy to set down but my curiosity of what would happen next had me picking it back up. If you are a fan of Kylie Scott’s works you should not overlook this one.

Kylie is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today best-selling, Audie Award winning Romance author.

Ride hard. Love harder. Give in to temptation.

Living a hard life has turned Six into a hard man. One who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to keep his club, or those they protect, safe.

He’s ready for more though. More than one night with hookups who don’t see anything other than his club patch. He’s ready to use his hands to caress and discipline a boy of his own. But the night he meets Ollie, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to have him, even if it’s only for a single night.

Nothing goes to plan and the boy ends up under his protection. Untouchable.

Tempting.

And if he thought Ollie was gorgeous in his tight jeans, he’s absolutely breathtaking in his skirts.

Six has to have him.

He may never be good enough for a boy as dazzlingly perfect as Ollie, but he’ll never let him go. He’s the only one who can give him exactly what he needs.

A home.

Temptation is the second book in the Leather & Chrome series but can be enjoyed on its own. The story features an age gap, forced proximity, an inclusive motorcycle club, a quiet biker with a firm hand, a hairstylist with more sass than caution, a well-negotiated TPE, and an avid appreciation for watching.

Review by Twinsie Angie

I purchased this audio book.

I fell in LOVE with Six in book 1.  I needed this man to find a boy of his own.  Seeing the longing he has while watching Tank and CJ I just knew he would be a good Daddy to someone!!  When Ollie was first introduced, I was GIDDY!!  Knowing the man Six is and seeing the boy Ollie is *smiling and shaking my head* these two were going to be a combustible fireball of chemistry and sexy times.

I was not let down at all.  I mean from the second they met it was on like donkey Kong.  Six and Ollie were headed to a storage room when *POOF* Ollie disappears.  Six was confused and a little butthurt that sexy little thing escaped.  When he sees him later that night with a black eye, his inner protector was full front and center.  When he must take Ollie to the clubhouse to protect him, other parts of him were upfront and center. *snickers*

I was in heaven listening to their relationship develop.  Seeing Ollie be jealous of CJ and worried he was also after Six.  Watching Tank give grief to Six about his sassy Boy has me giggling.  Karma Six Karma.  Six and Ollie stole my heart.  They both want so badly to be loved, cherished, and wanted even with all their hang ups and kinks.  I tell ya, I cant wait to see what happens in the rest of the books but knowing I will get more CJ/Tank and Six/ Ollie makes me a happy reader.
